now we see that another set of trialists havent made the cut, im just wanting to know how these players did in the games they played. unfortunately due to work i havent been able to do any matches this pre-season.

who saw these lads play? were they any good? and is this the right decision for blackwell?

my guess is they probably preffered the passing game and the tactical genius that is blackwell didnt fancy them. but what do i know.

also, any one got any news on who these new trialists might be?

It's also a question of how much they would cost.

We could have Torres on trial but baulk at his £70m fee and £200k a week wages. Perhaps... :D

Logan and Gilbert were steady enough but there was nothing stand-out about them. Vignal created the Ertl goal with a glorious cross but did get caught out of position down the Millers right as well.

In particular with Vignal, wages might be a consideration. I don't think he is any better than what we have in Taylor so it's not worth the money. Would like to have seen Logan/Gilbert trial another week but they probably wanted an answer I'm guessing ...

Someone having a dig at Blackwell for no reason...especially someone who didn't go to the games concerned...priceless.

From someone who did go(along with many others),only Vignal in the second half at the DVS showed anything like what we needed but nothing outstanding(they were all poor at Burton). And yes,we did try and play along the floor but that probably doesn't suit your 'agenda' does it ?

Saw them in both games and can't say I'm surprised that none of them have been kept on.

Logan did well at Burton but looked shakey against Rotherham. Vignal was crap at Burton but better at Rotherham. Gilbert didn't show anything in either game.

My 'dig' as you put it, is completely valid, we dont play nice passing football, if we did then i wouldnt think that way. If we did play along the floor and continue to do so then superb, and ill happily back blackwell all the way, if we dont and results dont prosper from playing hoofball then 'agenda' as you say, will continue. It just strikes me as a bit ridiculous that people would think we would trial players who we couldnt afford, thats just an utter waste of time and resources on our part. why bother giving trials and wasting trial time that could be used for other players if we cant afford them?

As ridiculous as the notion of dumping triallists because they play "football" and not "hoofball"?

I'm glad you said it!

We've only seen them on the pitch - I've only seen them at Don Valley.

Kevin Blackwell & Sam Ellis have seen them everyday on the training pitch + at the games stated. Therefore I think they have more say than I do on them. I agree with Bartman that Vignal's cross for the goal was good, but he also got caught out on a couple of occasions. Even if Vignal played unbelievably well for 90mins he could still have been shit in training and at the other games he played in.

well 2 academy lads, one from arsenal and the other from city, well known for producing passing footballers and the other a player who has played for several prem and european clubs, i would have thought they would be able to play football, look im not wanting this thread to turn into a 'blackwells tactics' debate, my comment on the hoofball was nothing more than a comment on our style of play under him. if they werent any good then fair enough. But if people genuinely think we have let go of them because of financial constraints, then why trial them?

That's fair. I think it's probably just because they didn't prove themselves to be worth the money they were after, personally. :)
