Hourihane & Norwood

It’s a very weak, slow, like minded combination to both be occupying a pivotal CM as a combination.

We improved in that area of the pitch significantly when we dropped Berge back and MGW right side.

That’s the way forward IMHO.

We’re not spoilt for choice, Hourihane is our best midfielder, non tackling Berge can’t play there!!

Play Berge up front you never know but would do a better job than McBurnie

While Berge is a gentle giant and not likely to go flying in, any time he goes near the opposition they fall over and win a free kick so it's no wonder he's apprehensive about tackling

That Fleck run resulting in him being tackled when he could’ve slid it either side for a clear change on goal was nothing short of pathetic. Symbolic of how he is now in many ways.

The problem with the midfield is that everyone is good enough on their day, but it's a toss of a coin if it is going to be their day or not.

First we didn't lose with Hourihane and Norwood so having those paired up seemed the way to go.

Then Berge, Fleck and Norwood plus Gibbs-White, that was the way to go.

We went with this yesterday and we never got going.

At different points N'Diaye has been a first pick.

The problem is consistency.

Like old Forest Gump said "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get!"

Yes I was in utter disbelief with this. He ran all that way (and it was quite a long way) while all the time he had the two options either side. Even the crowd were being vocal in what he should've done. Despite being surrounded by all those defenders it was like he got a rush of blood to his head and thought "no, I can do this myself and get a shot off here!!" and then the inevitable happened.

Jesus wept what a complete amateur moment from Flecky there

He’s a long way off what he was & we can’t wait for him to improve, it’s got to be Hourihane & Norwood behind MGW Berge and Billy…

It was a great, direct run at and towards goal where many players usually go wide and away from goal. He should have released it earlier but it was an excellent tackle.

He was presumably waiting for one the the defenders to leave the line and try to tackle him.

Berge and Gibbs-White were both on as passes, but both would've had to take a man on to get a shot off. He was hoping to draw a defender and then release the pass.

The defenders didn't come, Fleck took too long to make a decision and a man tracked back and took it off him. Don't think it was THAT bad.

In hindsight he ran too straight, should have angled run slightly towards left corner of six yard box, giving option for MGW to stay outside or cut inside.

Possibly. But those driving runs by Fleck are what we used to love about him. No doubt he should have done better but I’ll go with the positive of it being a very good recovery tackle.

A slow weak , like minded combination ,that took us up the league , we have only lost once when they have played together.

So if we had lost them all it wouldnt have been relevant
No. Not what I said.

The relevance comes when you understand how ineffective we have been in midfield for nay on 3 years.

Norwood in particular, has been centric to this.

Less so (obviously) Connor.

The 2 together are not my cupatea.

I could expand on why but assume this is obvious 👀.

Colback went down like a sack of spuds on more than one occasion, near Sander.

On that note, Colback looked weak, and well and truly out of position. We should've tried to exploit that more.

I completely disagree, Norwood, Fleck and Hourihane are good enough against the lower league teams.
Once they come up against the better midfield players they clearly lack the physicality and pace needed, all three need replacing for next season.
Hourihane I wouldn't keep, Norwood and Fleck if we can't get rid they need to become squad backups.

Berge should be nowhere near the centre mid spots, he's too much of a liability defensively. He's done okay in the more advanced role, either leave him there or bring him on in that position as an impact sub.

Norwood and Hourihane did seem to be playing well as a pairing not so long ago.

He should have released it about an hour before he got tackled

The two runners running alongside their markers didn't really help Fleck. If Jebbo had darted across the back line to drag a defender inwards then Fleck could have dribbled into space on his favoured foot.

Everyone blaming Fleck but he was hung out to dry, especially not getting a man on call

Fleck should have released it, it's on fleck and only fleck, absolute waste of a chance
