I watched a piece on BBC News this morning. They are looking for sites to reflect the history of the country. Looked at their list of sites and BDTBL is not mentioned.
Be reassured they have received a very strongly worded email and nomination to rectify this gross error, I will keep you posted.
PS I gave Sheffield FC a mention as well.
Well what is there to say about BDTBL, both good and bad?
That it's one of the oldest football grounds?
It's where the Sheffield Pals assembled before going into WW1? But I imagine ours wasn't the only footy ground up and down the country where this happened??
We staged the first floodlit football match?
The first ground to have a football match broadcast over the radio or was that at Arsenal's Highbury?
Was a victim of the WW2 Blitz? Again I don't think we were the only club this happened to.
We've never hosted a World Cup match.
The largest or one of the largest Kop stands in England?
The ground where the first ever Premier League goal was scored.
The old Cricket Pavilion?
We've been host to a concert or two? Again not the only football ground to do this, same goes for hosting a Boxing match also.
I'm not ranting here by the way as I love BDTBL as much as the next Blade, and I may have forgotten some other pieces of trivia/facts about our wonderful ground but if outsiders were to read what I've listed above they'd probably say 'well so what, nothing too special to see here'. Maybe if we had spent more time in the top flight during the last 40 or 50 years than we have done we'd get some more recognition I reckon.
