i have been remembering what i could from this season, and have been putting together (in my mind) a collaberation of the horrors and mistakes made by Nosworthy and Simonsen. After the many many errors they both made, (thrown in with a couple from Neill Collavarro), is it a fair assessment to say that these 2 players could have made the mistakes which have single-handedly sent us down?

I know, I know, its not fair to pin the blame on 2 players, but actually, they have cost us waaay more than the 6 points required, and I can't think of any other horrific errors made by other players that have cost us any victories. Had they been replaced by simply competant (nt necessarily good) players, would we have stayed up?Thoughts?

Agree entirely, the number of individual errors that Simonson, Nosworthy and Collins have made that have led directly to a goal must have cost us a lot more than 6 points. The penalty given away at Scunthorpe by Collins is a great example, Scunthorpe were dead an buried at the time and Collins handed them a way back into the game.

He was shite last season, should never have pulled a shirt on this season, we could all see it, another massive mistake from Blackwell, which has cost far more than money this season. Between him and Simmo, they have shipped loads of goals, not just the odd mistake which you can blame Collins for, these two have looked like a goal against us every time the ball has gone near them.

Having said that I hope the crowd don't sarcastically cheer when Simmo does anything Saturday, i won't help his confidence and we really need him to be at his best.

Think the problem was that they both did ok the season before and the board/manager seemed content with the return of quality against cost. Both then having shocking seasons then shows up the cost.

Finding a solid keeper is tricky, but I do believe we dropped the ball when it came to Nos. A lesser calibre player would've been the better option for me.

In terms of costly errors, Monty gave away way too many penalties this year. That and we became the witless victims of the Referee's not always clamping down on that first bad challenge.

I thought Simmo would have done so much better. The tail end of last season he played solidly. I was quite happy for him to replace Paddy but it's all turned to shit for him this season.

Nyron = Train Crash of Epic Proportions

Everyone could see last season he was a liability. To sign him up for a second season was utter folly.
He got too many second chances for my liking. Always prone to a stupid lapse of concentration leading to a goal.
I suspect the majority of goals conceded by defensive errors were as a result of Nos doing a Nyron.

Simmo has oftern looked very shaky this season but sometimes a 'Keeper can look very flakey when the defence in front of him protects nothing and leaves him exposed. When this happens the 'Keeper may go for crosses they shouldn't go for or try to take up positions to counter the threat posed by the lack of competent defending in front of them. If this happens and they don't get to the ball then there is only one outcome.

Having said that - first goal at Reading?

I was just watching Simmos one handed diving save to his left against Middlesboro (from a volleyed corner). Absolutely stunning.
But like Nos he can be brilliant and appalling within minutes.

Managing to convince Billy Sharp to hang around for 2 weeks might, just might have worked wonders as we have clearly missed a "goalscorer".

Even if not to help us, it would clearly have worsened Donnies points tally which Sharp has single handedly contributed significantly towards. Also our head to heads.

Couldn't agree more from what i've seen of him. Never busted a gut to put in a tackle, offered shit all going forward and was positionally hopeless.

Fair play to the guy though for conning a £1m+ out of us and sunderland for his services this year.

Not quite sure what anyone saw in Nos last season that would make them chant for him to stay, he was awful last season as well, he looked every much a liability last season as he did this season.

Agree about Nosworthy - poor use of club's wage structure. As for Simmo, I think it hasn't helped he has played behind some of the worst defenders at the Lane in living memory. No Morgan, no regular centre-back pairing coupled with more full-backs than I can remember, of which few have impressed. If we manage to field a settled solid back four next season having Simmo in goal might not be the worst thing in the world. He isn't as bad as some on here think in my opinion, even if he has had a poor season.

For me Simmo can go if it means freeing up wages to strengthen. I would rather see us build a solid back 5 that will play together for 2yrs+ than a back 4 and need a new keeper after another year.

The lack of a solid spine has cost us plenty this season. Plus a spineless bunch of senior players happy to take their wage and show no passion or pride in their work.

As long as the summer brings transfer activity with the goal of building a team then I will be a bit happier. Transfer targets pre-Adams seemed role based rather than with an eye to how strengths and weaknesses fit within a planned team structure or style of play. Britton, Ertle and Boggy filled gaps on paper but didn't really bring attributes needed by the team. Likewise Bartley, Calve and Parrino who were way too lightweight and not the greatest cover. 6 transfers in that provided little impact to the team.

Players coming in need to be good enough and strong enough to hold their own, irrespective of who's playing in front or to the side of them. This season we have carried too many players who were not up to task and its weakened us all over the pitch. Incapable players and a terminal lack of swagger, confidence and accuracy in front of goal have made us easy pray.

ah John Hope...fantastic in our promotion winning team...he even got called up for England U-23 team - however, once he lost his confidence he never ever recovered it. A bit like Simonsen I suppose.
