Dissapointing performance. Highlight of night though, watching young Maguire floor Bellamy with a crunching challenge :D should play CB every week. You would never guess who was more experienced between him and collins :s

He was very good to be fair. I didn't know if he'd be ready but blew that out of the window.

Impressive start and he looks as if he has it in him to make a professional career.
Him and Harriot looked the only two obvious ones last week and I'd hope to see him also play in the closing weeks.
There's also no point in playing Bent again so Slew has to be at least on the bench.

where did he play when he came on. He's a Centre back for the Youths isn't he?

Maguire was outstanding. The only bright spot in another abysmal team performance. Has McCabe sold him yet? As usual, zero goal threat from our slow, fucking useless strikers.

3 centre halves, hmmm i wonder where we've been seeing that

Is that how the academy paly? I generally don't know as I haven't had the chance to see them yet?

I would have said it was a 4 Lowton-Collins-Maguire-Lowry. Thought the full backs were very exposed with tonights formation ,Riise just left Nosworthy to it in the first half.
Thought Bellamy was a cheat and a big mouth until I saw bothroyd and Burke.
The main difference in the game was Cardiffs keeper commanded his box and their defence had confidence in him ,ours doesn't and they didn't. Simmonsen would be the third out of the door just behind Yeates and Nosworthy for me.

I thought the stand out player last week was the goalkeeper Long. But yes Maguire looked very good tonight. Perhaps a centre half pairing of him and Morgan could lead us back up next season! That is if a) McCabe doesn't sell him first, or b) they coach the ability out of him.

The highlight of the night for me was looking at the odds pre-match and for half a second considering having 9/4 on United to win, then quickly dismissing the idea and keeping the money in my pocket.

It did start as a four but Lowton was clearly told to push forward to make it into a 3-5-2 while we were in possesion and then revert back to 4-4-2 when Cardiff pressed us back.

Fair comment, Long looked good, particularly second half.
Interesting scenario for him as he's exceptionally young for a 'keeper - hasn't even got another year at Youth Cup level?
Keepers don't usually get a chance to play so young but if he keeps progressing it would be worth United looking at possibly loaning to a League Two side next season.

Personally, I thought the highlight of the night was that young lads' celebration after winning the penalty shoot out at half time ..... loved it !!

BUBBLE....definately the highlight!!!

Impressed with McGuire, wasn't scared, came on and showed the overpaid losers how it should have been from kick off. Bellamy? F**K YOU, take that!!!!

It was the best (ok mediocre I suppose) that I have seen of Collins too.

I like Lowton's contribution, but Quinny for me at least tried to show some battle from start to finish.

why bother.. we're almost there ourselves

Mainly because he's very young and goalkeeper is such an individual position where any mistakes are critical.
There's every chance next season will not go well and we'd probably do well to protect him.
If Simonsen's likely to still be here in any case but if we want Long to start playing first team, League Two or possibly even conference might be the way to go.
