High Green Blades

A few of my school pals were from High Green (St Mary's) and the highlight of this connection was going to their church circa 1977 and often standing next to the guy who was voted Celtic's greatest ever player. A complete legend , possibly only equalled by the great Henrik Larsson. And aged 12 I was taller than him even then.

In the interests of balance(important in these parts) my current object of desire is full weight Rangers bloke Johnny Fleck .....

Old Jimmy. Used to drink like a fish in the Market Inn

Greengate, Steptoe's, Newgate then Phoenix. Only ever really popular when it was Steptoe's not sure how it's survived when others haven't.
Went in regular on a Friday night in the early 80's, it was all brick and copper kettles and things, with an old red phone box in the corner.....theme pubs, I believe they were called.

View attachment 14261 This could be a really short thread because I've not come across a single Blade on here for High Green, but if there's any out there-we've had a badge made up.
It's based on the flag that you'll have seen at the away games.
£2 if you're interested, just drop me a message.
Not sure if I'm allowed to promote things like this, obviously get it deleted Foxy if not.
I want a couple of badges, how do I get them

The badges are a great idea, how do I get one
None left pal, if they do another batch I will post on this thread letting people know.

When it was the Greengate, Joe Cocker played there regularly in the early 60's and it was fantastic ! Joe loved it too.

I was a High Green Blade growing up in the late 40's and 50's and it felt like I was in a minority of one. I didn't care though as I had the pleasure of watching those two footballing gods Joe Shaw and Jimmy Hagan every other week. Happy days.

Can't be many churchgoing Blades from latter half of 20th century on. Think Jinky and Starbuck had the market cornered!
