Useful video from Tifo about the hidden factors involved in a transfer:

Summary
  • The 3Fs:
    • Football - How much playing time, position, role within the team
    • Finance - Obviously!
    • Family - Can the old missus settle in a sh*thole etc, will the club pay money to the family (genuinely parents may as for money as they produced the player lolz)
  • The Manager:
    • Some managers take the time to meet the player personally - others do not
      • Aaron Ramsey example where Mike Phelan met him (Sir Alex was busy) but Arsenal flew him and his family over to Switzerland where Arsene was doing media duties
    • Some managers choose to present whole rafts of info to players e.g position, role, playing style if they were to join.
      • Others prefer just to have a good 'ol cuppa instead
    • Some players do not care for presentations and want to just listen to what the manager has to say
  • Location:
    • Huge impact
    • London obviously attractive
      • If you're a French player, you're likely to be attracted to London owing to the French community (schools, bakeries and all other sh*t French sh*t)
  • Loan market:
    • Style of interested club is huge
    • Some clubs may enquire for ANY player
    • Some clubs may follow the approach of a transfer by presenting to player and Development Coach

I can't say there's anything surprising on that video, it's all pretty obvious really.

I'm sure Wilder is very good at selling the club to potential transfer targets, you can see that from the video when Berge signed.

A nice explanation, and nothing ground breaking.

What it does highlight is that folks saying Player X would be mad to go to A N Other club because we have CWAK, is a little bit fanciful. Yes, as Blades we love them and the work they do and how far they've brought us as a club, but for none Blades and footballers elsewhere it's probably not that big a factor as some of us would like to believe. Whilst the club management is highlighted as one factor there are a good number of others like location, finances (to parents as well - seems like the sort of piss take that CW might object to), details on game time and position, style of play (and here i still don't think our 'style' is widely appreciate beyond fan base and the better informed pundits), etc.

Aye, but.....
it's also (more than) "pretty obvious" that a significant proportion of 'contributors' on here can't / don't (want to) comprehend the process -
Pay em 60 grand & they will come

Decent video. In essence London will always be a big pull for foreign players, but in my view, slightly less so for domestic players, certainly those from the north. Our training ground isn't that great in terms of facilities, but that's changing of course. Having the Copthorne may have been a positive, hopefully that'll be opening sooner rather than later.

I wonder if Wilder drives out perspective players to the likes of Dore and Totley and tells them here's where you probably want to live! Not that I'd want to live there in all honesty, but I can see why many would. It breaks away the perceptions that Sheffield is a dump of a city somewhere "up north" and I still think we battle with that perception at times!.

Saying all of that, you can't beat the many down to earth areas in Sheffield like where I live in Shiregreen, albeit its the wrong side of the city, but I doubt many professional players want to live here despite its closeness to Meadowhall, its links to the M1, and then there's Concord Park of course and a top quality golf course apparently! ;)

The "three F's" had a very different meaning in school

There are other factor that arent mentioned on that video.

Role of agents......having good or bad relationships with certain agents can swing it one way or the other.
For example isn’t Chris Morgan the agent of Oliver McBurnie?

Role of players- friendships, contacts within the clubs. Wilder admits he does this quite alot when identfying targets. No doubt players do the same about us.
Players prefer to have friends already to the club they move to.

Is patisserie Valerie still open in Sheffield? We should be able to attract some quality French talent if so

I remember reading something a while ago about us signing some player and the club took him up Eccy Road in a car and showed him that South West side of the city, out over Ringinglow moor, Burbage, Fox House, etc. It won him over.

Bet the bedsit in Page Hall was a bit of a downer though?🤔

That is the story of how Eric Taylor persuaded Ron Springett to sign for Wendy

Really?

Well I wouldn’t dare doubt you SilentBlade. I knew I’d read something like that before but I never realised I’d been reading about Wednesday players!

I hang my head in shame and maybe this is the moment to admit to reading “midget porn” as well. 🤔

Aston villa and Fulham

A scattergun approach of reading the daily stars transfer update page to see who you can outbid

I think it was trying to focus on less well known stuff

Just read an article in the Fail, from an ex scout talking about the difficulties of transfers presently. Came across this comment.....

“Webb worked with Paul Mitchell, the commended sporting director now at Monaco”

Wondered if was our Paul Mitchell and if he’d left the club?

Shows them Castle Market and takes them to the Hen & Chickens for a pie & pea supper. London est tres merde after seeing the delights of South Yorkshire’s capital.
