Hi...

Firstly, welcome to the forum :)

Secondly, and I'll point this out more gently than anyone else will, we do ask that "txt spk" isn't used on the forum. The explanation as to why can be found HERE.

Just to help out too, I've edited the name of your thread to be a little more descriptive... seeing as you want rid of your train tickets.

If you need anything, just get in touch :)

Whoosh. You need to be less subtle Linz.

I think we should bear in mind that there are many people nowadays genuinely unable to write in anything other than what we might call "text speak". Some would call it continued evolution of the English language. For old fogies like me (31) it's all rather hard to take, but we shouldn't assume that someone is deliberately breaking the rules because they write "u" instead of "you" and miss out certain letters from words.

Having no sense of irony on the other hand, is unforgivable and deserving of an instant ban.

Doesn't mean we operate an open house policy for illiterates though. We welcome members who enhance the forum for others, not make it impossible to read. And if they are genuinely illiterate/dyslexic, we do ask that they at least try, you know, reading their posts before they hit submit, adding a spellchecker to their browser and putting a sneaky edit in if necessary... it is they with the issue, not the rest of us who can't bloody understand them :)

Like I've always said, this isn't a school. We expect decent standards around here :D

I don't think that's right at all. Everyone in the UK goes to school where they are taught non-text speak. And no-one would write a job application or any other kind of formal document in text speak.

I think the issue is that for an increasingly number of young people, informal written communication is quite often by text speak, hence it is thought to be acceptable in places like this.

I've seen a job application, and even a CV, with 'text speak'. Everyone (virtually) goes to school, but not everyone takes any notice of what they're being taught.
