Hi all, Norwich fan here!

Cheers for the replies (well, most of them!). I went to Hillsborough a few years back, and the Wednesday fans were a decent bunch (bar a few), so hope you guys are simillar! On the Holt front, he is a very clever player. When he is against you, you love to hate him. He doesn't 'dive' as such, but if he know's he hasn't got a chance to beat a defender/take a shot, he will go down under any contact. He scored 30 last year in all comps, and no bad player can do that! This year he obviously hasn't been as prolific, but has scored a total of 12 with a hat-trick vs Ipswich and something like 6 goals in his last 7 games. I seem to remember a few 'heavy' challenges by your players at Carrow Road, plus a headbut on Russell Martin, and eventually leading to your player being sent off. So you can have no complaints about Holt! It should be a good game on Saturday, but hope it's 3 points coming back to Norfolk!

Yes, thats diving. He is a diving tosser, I cant stand him, ruins a fair game and ruined the game at Norwich when we were by far the better team.

To be fair, say, if Evans 'dived' and won you a penalty that won you the game, would you complain?... And to 'Grumpy Blade' i'm not coming by car, sorry!

You don't know United fans very well, we love to complain at anything ;)

To be honest, there has been numerous Blades about who have not been impressed with certain dives from our players.
A prime example was Sharps dispicable dive against Leicester a few years since.

Never got down to Norwich as the fixture always seems to clash with something i can't get out of.

Don't be too harsh on the Norfolk ales Ollie, Woodforde's is a brewery par excellence, and their Wherry is an ale of magical quality.

You are right. There are some decent ales down South. Problem is that they don't know how to serve them. I'm always getting funny looks of the bar staff when I lean over the bar and instruct them to leave a head on the pint!? :D

When i used to manage pubs i gave my customers the option to have it served 'Northern', and to do that properly you need to push the beer through a sparkler. Now if you run a busy pub, that can be a bit of a pain to locate said sparkler when it's very busy. they're really small and have a tendency to go missing. One solution is to have one northern tap and one southern tap, but if you don't have many pumps then that restricts the range of beers you can offer.

I prefer having it served southern anyway. You get more beer in the glass. ;)

There's a mention of this in the Good Beer Guide that says only Northern beers brewed to be pushed through a sparkler should be and that Southern dishwater beer should not...

Having said that I do like a pint of Harvey's of Lewes, Sussex :-)

Wapping may be onto something there. Northern beers, so I'm informed, are brewed with a view to being served with a 'finish' and the process is adjusted accordingly. No such adjustment for the southern stuff, so don't try and put a head on it, cos it can't cope!

I did at first start off by serving all the Northern beers through a sparkler (those that were recommended to be served through a sparklers at any rate), but received too many complaints from the southerners, so i switched to giving people the option.

I have to say, takeup was fairly low, apart from a few hardcore people.

Favourite ale people?

I'm going for Roosters Yankee of Harrogate.

So Holt DOES dive then? can we just clear that up? IF he does it again tommorow, expect me to run on the pitch and knock his tash off.

£50 says you don't. After all, he might swear or something.

At the moment I am mostly imbibing Copper Dragon Golden Pippin but am looking forward to what Andy at The Rutland has on offer tomorrow - hic :-)

I thoroughly enjoy Horndean Special Bitter when I can find it, although Seafarers Ale goes down quite nicely too.

Timothy Taylor's (Landlord) is up there for me. It's back on the map and quite rightly been rewarded for it's excellence. Had a cracking pint of it (well turned into several) in the George (and Dragon) in Wentworth (small quaint village on outskirts of Barnsley/Rotherham).

I love Wobbly Bob and Theakston Old Peculiar too.

I've tried hundreds, but forget the names. I used to write them down in the Camra real ale guide, but stopped. Thking about starting it up again though.

..... and I'm still partial to Riggwelter by the Black Sheep brewery.

Oh yes, now you are talking :D

Perhaps we should start a thread on this ......

Too many to choose from sadly, but if I was having my last pint ever it would either be Stones on handpump (cant get it anymore) or Youngers No 3 (ditto and ditto)

Partial to Sam Smiths, Landlord and when in Sheffield Seven Hills. Also finding my tastebuds excited by the range of 1970's beers still on sale in Edinburgh (Youngers Scotch Bitter, Tartan Bitter, McEwans 70 and 80 shilling etc.

Hic.

I was in Edinburgh a few weekends ago and was pleasently surprised by the amount of good real ale they had on offer. There are a lot of real ales and some great pubs.

Next time you're up, The Guildford just opposite Waverley steps is a great place to get the ball rolling.

remember walking past that and thinking it looked nice. Once of the few I did not try!?

All the beers I was brought up on are no more or in the case of Tetley's will soon be no more:

Hand Pulled Stones (brewed in Sheffield)
Wards
Tetley's
Gilmour's
Castle Eden
Queen's Ale
Durham Ale

Castle Eden, bloody hell forgot about that, up on the A19 somewhere wasn't it? Tbh Tetley's died the day the fucking wankers from Denmark bought it, just death by a thousand cuts since.

Yep - Castle Eden is near Durham and I assume was brewed by Whitbread in Durham, along with Durham Ale. The Sheffield Whitbread brewery produced Trophy and Queen's Ale from memory.

The proposal is to brew Tetley's in Wolverhampton for some bizarre reason.

There are many new micro breweries popping up (Abbeydale being one example) that are very good but there are definitely some brews that are sorely missed. For example, I miss Wards and hand pulled Stones when in Sheffield and was partial to a Caslte Eden myself when available. Here in the Midlands we have a cracking brewery called Purity, which has three brews; UBU, Gold and Mad Goose. All very fine beers and can sometimes be found in establishments owned by M&B.

Bradfield Ales, Farmers Blonde!!!

It actually goes ''I can't read and I can't wright but boy tha' doesn't matter, Cos I come from Ipswich Town and I can drive a traccor'!!

As we are talking nice sups on a Norwich thread someone should mention Adnams as its the closest beer to their I like. Lovely sat outside the Lord Nelson on a nice day supping one of those.
