Here we go again....Blades stars could be sold

It's just a matter of when, not if.

I think Long could be worth multiples of his current value this time next year. But will we hold on?

We're a 3rd division club after all, we couldn't keep them when we had money in the championship, why do you think now would be different.

Its a non story , the no offers have come in yet sort of puts the dampers on it
My piles might clear up is just as solid a story, but does it get in the Star , does it heck

Division One club might sell players , up there with dog sniffs other dogs arse
Blades might sign Rooney ( if we are taken over by oil oligarch ) is coming up too

Old news by a rag of a newspaper with nothing else worthwhile to print so they run a story of an interview with Weir on the day he was announced as the new Blades boss. Lazy journalism at it's worst but not unexpected from a pig paper.

Same old.............
.
..
...
....filling column inches with stating the obvious story, that'll whip the reactionaries into a frenzy.

Third division club will sell players. I'm going to get drunk shortly, and the Pope is indeed Catholic.

The sad thing is for the first time in years there's no players I'd really mind losing. There's some I'd actually encourage to leave, most of whom are in the first team!

To to fair, we only have one saleable player - Long - and that's more to do with his potential than outstanding form so far. Others - including the likes of Maguire - have yet to prove themselves in my opinion. The only positive of our recent decline is that we don't have to worry about selling our good players!

Star headline
Blades manager says nothing noteworthy so we make a sensationalist headline to try and boost our 234 a day readership level

Dunno if they would fit that on the billboard though

Hasn't Long, Diego, Maguire and McFadzean just signed new 5 year deals in the last 7 months?

If so, don't buying clubs have a job on buying their contracts out + Development fee (because they are under 24) + Potential valuation fee?

Just a thought. None of them are on big wages in fairness so no need to sell.

I think Macca and Flynn will be the first to leave tbh

Absolutley. Probably for the first time in many a long year. I have sweated and sweated over numerous transfer windows. I have dreaded the departures of the likes of Walker, Naughton, Jags, Killa, Evans, Beattie and Quinn just to name a few. Maquire is our most valued player and I would'nt be devestated if he moved on.

I think we are all realists, and if an offer comes in for any player it has to be considered, but the real issue, is that we so often sell too cheap.

If Long should go, they will probably sell for 1.5m,and think we got a great deal, but keep him and bring him on, and next season he will be worth 4 times that, by then the money we receive will actually be worth something to the club and with some over to find a replacement. (OK I'm in fantasy land).

Apologies fella, but this is a myth that is repeated so often that most have adopted it as fact. Our record of selling players, value wise, is not a bad one. It's the timing of them that often stinks.

I'm going to get these in before anybody else does....

Two packets of Nik Naks and a can of Tizer
Three Highland Toffees and a half-eaten pack of Refreshers
An unopened multipack of Kellog's cereals and an out-of-date carton of milk
A smashed light bulb and a pair of fake England replica goalkeeper shorts
Five salted peanuts and a copy of Razzle dated July 1986
and
An opened tin of Cadbury's Roses from Christmas containing only the Strawberry and Orange Creams.

Should be keeping Long and McGuire, the rest should be up to the manager. That's the problem, the manager doesn't usually make the decision.

If Jo Guest and Adelle Stephens are in the copy of Razzle you can have what you want.

Maguire can go for me. He's not a bad young player don't get me wrong but he's made a good few costly mistakes and doesn't seem to have come on last season as I would have liked him to. He's a young lad with a great deal to learn and at this level he can be replaced and dare I look beyond this level I think a few strikers would rip him to shreds in the Championship therefore if a decent bid comes in we have to take it.

George long in my opinion has to stay, great young keeper and seems to be improving week in week out.

We no longer have any "stars" to sell.

He's not a star but the only player I'd be remotely disappointed about us losing is McDonald because he actually has the ability to play football that I enjoy watching. After all, that's why I pay to go. I'm sure my thoughts regarding him are well documented so I'll save everyone from me repeating myself. The rest of them can go for me.

I have used the phrase "perennial diminishment in quality of the team" before. I think we've pretty much reached the stage where the replacements can't be noticeably worse than their predecessors. Long and Maguire might be young, but we could find players with their current level of ability for less money than we'd get for them.

Is that Harry Maguire who has featured in the division team of the season ? ,swap those 2 names round and you might have a point. Long has made far costlier mistakes ,in my opinion the ones against Crewe at home were season changers.

I don't understand the downer some Blades have about Maguire. He is a 20 year old central defender who most opposition fans see as one of the best in the division, homegrown, and someone who still has the potential to develop into an even better player (defenders don't play their best football when they are 20, as far as I understand). Yet many wouldn't be bothered about seeing him gone? I think it would be a desperate shame if he was sold, and would still be a touch disappointed even if the money was very good.

He started well and since hasn't improved that much in my opinion, his first touch has at times let him down and has led to us conceding. I also worry about his turn of pace and if the ball over the top is right he's beat for pace and can't catch players.

I'm not saying he is poor because he is adequate for this league however I don't believe all of the hype surrounding him, I have never understood the Premiership club rumours because he's a long way off a decent Championship player and overall he is far from the finished article.

Maguire shows how far we have sunk.
Maguire the star. More like a teletubby on a bad day half the time.
And the lack of criticism for, for instance, his generally abysmal distribution, shows how he may be the best of an awful bunch, but the entire team is utter shite.

He'd be a lot better if he had more people to pass to. I honestly don't know how people can criticise a 20 year old who's played almost every game for 2 years. I think he's excellent. As for a level above, I'd be concerned because he is slow and you have to be very, very good if you're a slow centre back. League one level though we have one of the most talented and consistent centre halves in the league. If we want out of this league, we should be keeping someone we know is easily good enough to handle being at the top, not chancing it on someone we dont.

Some incredibly harsh comments on Maguire. Week in, week out, opposition fans picked him out as our best player. He made the top 10 of FourFourTwo's best player in the Football League (voted for by people who've seen him, not journalists and a competition which attacking players generally dominate) and, as Sitwell said, the League One team of the year (voted for by fellow pros). He also picked up an England U21 cap.

I think I commented after Crewe away last season that he was so much better than everyone else on the pitch (including all of Crewe's much vaunted young prospects) that it was embarrassing.

A very, very good young centre back who will doubtless play at a higher level and he'll be missed when we eventually cash in.

Don't buy all the talk that centre backs are easy to replace either - look at Danny Higginbotham. Premier League appearances coming out of his ears, probably on good money and he isn't half the player that Harry is.

We'll probably all be singing the Nick Blackman song when he leaves....

Well you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love him when you let him go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love him when you let him go
And you let him go

As for his distribution, Maguire is unusually comfortable on the ball. We weren't close to getting any sort of decent passing moves going last season, hence the centre halves being more or less forced to hit hopeful balls forward.
