Help with old(?) Blades shirt

I picked this shirt up a couple of years ago not really knowing what it is! I'm thinking I can't have been lucky enough to get a Woody shirt, but it seems to have a lot of the hallmarks of the 70s shirts.
Can anyone shed any light on what it might be? I'm assuming a modern replica but the material of the shirt (that sort of really scratchy nylon) and the Umbro label is unlike any replica I've seen.

I had that era shirt 1973-4ish. It had the central red stripe exactly that. Central. May also have had a white background for numbers on the teams shirts.
 
Thanks everyone. I was also confused by it not having the red stripe in the middle which shirts from that era seemed to have.
So is it a replica or a player issue?

Probably a player issue, back in the early days of bespoke kits there were often production errors. Some of the team would have the Umbro logo on their shirts, some wouldn't. Sometimes they'd have a white stripe down the middle as opposed to red.

Then again though, weren't kits still mostly wool or wool-nylon blend at the time?
 
Looks suspect to me, the material looks too modern, I think they'd have been fluffier then.

Also the vinyl applique Umbro. Think it's more likely to have been embroidered or that raised stuck on stuff at that period.

It does look really similar to this one Woody is wearing. With the black Umbro logo rather than the stitched one with the white background

I thought the same with the Umbro logo but on the photo I posted of Woody above it looks very similar

The one on the photo looks embroidered to me, has some dimensionality to it.

Similar to Fred Perry shirt material. Certain I got a sew on badge, from Suggs probably, and that was nailed on.
 
Looks to me like a newish Umbro template reproduction that's been customised with the coat of arms and number.

I think the only way to tell would be to take it down to the legends of the lane museum (if its still there/opening) and try and compare it to one from that era
 
During that period, numbers were always sewn on to a white material square, which was, in turn, sewn on to the shirt. This carried on through the first tranche of Admiral kits too. Also, all the middle stripes were exactly lined up. Never, EVER seen a picture of one of those shirts with a misplaced stripe.

And for those reasons, I'm out.

So probably a modern replica then? I was just puzzled by the material and the Umbro label. It's a lot of effort for a cheap fake, but there are a lot of question marks

Generic classic style shirt that someone has converted to a United top.

They didn't do bad as long as you've not paid genuine kit price for it.

Could well be as it's in really good condition and doesn't look nearly 50 years old tbh. It's get me puzzled for sure 😂

Creates loads of fakes and doesn’t clearly state it. Loads will have bought off him thinking they’re buying an original. Has sold under other usernames, including ‘Jumpers4Goalposts‘.

Thanks for this. This wasn't the seller I got it from and if fake it is a very good job as the badge is embroidered very nicely. But makes a nice shirt as it's a classic design - even has stripes on the back 😂

The badge is nice but it was the instant giveaway for me.
 



What has me confused, and I'm in no way trying to convince anyone it's a genuine 70s shirt, is if it is a fake whoever did it has gone to a lot of trouble. Like the 93 one above, which looks like a decent effort, has a plain basic label. Whereas the one I have they must have also faked an Umbro label. But agree it could be a basic reissue Umbro template shirt with a badge embroidered on later 😊
