Now he’s done a great job so far ……. BUT….. his substitutions baffle me.

So we have a defender on the bench but when Baldock gets injured he puts in Khadra?

Takes off Doyle…. Berge was atrocious…. Norwood didn’t hide like Berge did tonight.

Takes off MCB for Sharp on 63 minutes just as we start putting crosses in.

Leaves Bogle on risking more injury.

It’s not the first time either…. Just seems random with zero thought.

I still haven’t got over his subs as Preston away last year !!!!

Sort it Hecky please !!

Not sure what you didn't get.

1. He brought Baldock off because he was injured. He brought Khadra on as an additional attacking move as bringing Gordon on would have made us weaker at centre back and not significantly more offensive at right wingback with Basham over Baldock. This is a positive move.

2. Doyle is a young guy only with half a season of men's football behind him. He kept Berge on because he has a pedigree of being able to do something that may lead to a goal. He had probably as many shots as anyone except Norwood and also had a penalty shout. So even on a bad day he had impactful moments.

3. McBurnie is still coming back from injury and it wasn't falling for him today. Bringing on a goalscorer of Sharp's pedigree when looking for a goal isn't unfathomable.

4. Bogle played 45 minutes for the reserves the other week. He played 30 for United the other day. He still withdrew him with 15 mins plus stoppages. Maybe 60 might have been ideal but he was showing no reaction and was having a good game.

I just wouldn't agree this was random or ill thought out.

If he'd have brought on the following here is what people would be commenting:

1. Gordon for Baldock - why did he bring a young lad on when we have more experienced players on the bench? FFS we are at home. Such a defensive move.

2. Anyone for Berge - I know Berge wasn't having a good game but at least he has a shot. We just tapped the ball around to no avail and we look so physically weak when he's not there.

3. Anyone for Norwood - just like Huddersfield last year when he didn't play, we looked so rudderless without him. Never looked like scoring or creating.

😉

Have to say Khadra did well on the right tbh

Khadras main contribution was to get the ball into the box, unfortunately he did this more after Mcburnie went off.

The deep crosses looked really dangerous and the timing of McBurnie coming off didn't make sense.

Khadra was aiming for McB for 17 mins, and then had 32 mins trying to find Sharp.

I don’t think there was a bad sub to make today, with the exception of egan and RND, every player looked tired and would have benefitted for playing 60 minutes.

With our injury situation at the minute if things aren't going well it leaves the manager with very few options to change it and any changes that he makes are going to leave things in a bit of a weird place so it's a tough position to be in

Basham was getting pulled apart on the right hand side. Bringing a young lad on in Gordon in his place would have probably made things even worse defensively and also seen Bash as RWB where he offers nothing offensively. If we had just one of our 400 injured defenders back then we could have done something more like for like.

Doyle was absolutely fucked which is why he came off. So was Berge to be fair but the only other option was Arblaster who likely isn't ready. Heckingbottom likely thought Berge was more likely to create something from nothing.

McBurnie is still recovering from his injury and plays in the one area of the team where we had options

In normal circumstances Bogle doesn't even start but we had to start him if we wanted to keep the system. I imagine the plan was to bring him off earlier but then Baldock went off so we had to leave him on longer so we actually had a recognised wing back (albeit one playing on the wrong side) while the game was still tight. McAtee on for 45 minutes or so would have just seen us go 2 or 3 down. He only came on once it was obvious QPR were no longer interested in going forward

The calls that Hecki got wrong tonight:
  • Baldock and Bogle were on the wrong sides (2 wrong decisions)
  • Picking Bash (even Gordon would have done better, Bash looks done at this level)
  • Playing Berge as a CDM
  • Subbing off Doyle
  • Subbing on Sharp (garbage again, looks done at this level)
  • Subbing off McBurnie
The things he got right
  • McAtee looked decent on the left wing and loads more comfortable than any other option tried recently
  • Khadra offered some go forward.

So on balance it was a pretty poor set of decisions from Hecky, backed up by a poor team performance and some truly wretched individual showings by quite a few of the senior players. Injuries have hampered him, QPR exploited the poor ref and even with all that with a bit more luck we could have got a draw.

He can do a lot better as can the team.

Arblaster; Gordon and Brewster should be pushing. McAtee is surely better than playing players on their wrong side.

So Billy and Bash are finished, I'm saving this one !

I am a huge supporter of PH as a manager. Even taking injuries into account, he needs to be questioned post match, about team selection and substitutions. I think that is quite reasonable.

The only selection he answered Is Khadra at LWB. I doubt he would risk that in an away game?

Lots of tired legs from pointless internationals playing against a rested team. We have a plethora of injuries so cant always make the "right" subs. On another day Norwoods strike sails in, Berge gets the pen, the ref isn't a total cockwomble and its an entirely different game. A 0-1 loss given all that isn't the end of the world. GET OAR IT
