Doncaster strengthen, Barnsley strengthen, we do nothing, again.
Makes you wonder just how bad our finances actually are.

Celtic has signed someone too.
Any others??????

All it makes me wonder is how long does it take some people to think of 'bad' things to say about United and how to pull the club down?!?!?

Unless you tell me otherwise, Celtic are still playing in the SPL and not the Championship.
Doncaster and Barnsley are on our doorstep, don't have loads more points than us and have both acquired strikers to strengthen.
Both have also scored more than 9 goals in 14 games.

Does Celtic strengthening directly affect us? No. Does our local and league rivals strengthening affect us? Definitely.

However, having said that, I'd ther have Andy Reid than those two. Now Andy Reid AND Healy would be good!

Well done you can quote stats and facts.
Still don't see why it requires a thread just to have a dig at United by a supposed United fan.

God your like so October Dunc.
Sure we got a better player in than either Healey or O'Connor then but what about this week.

Hopefully what we'll know by the end of this month is if our strikers are good enough, now that the delivery of the ball will be better.

I'm not sure what the point would be of bringing in an emergency loan striker, if it's the supply that's the problem, not our front men.

Yup and last week we needed a striker, the week before we did, the week before that, the week before that...

Yes, we all know that Len, but you stated in the original post " Makes you wonder just how bad our finances actually are. ", which kind of ignores the fact that we got a guy every bit as highly paid as the two you are now making a big thing about us not signing.

Perhaps Speedo can't find an 'injury prone donkey' for us? C'est la vie...

Stengthening? Time will tell. Both are loan deals. Healy (spell his name correctly!) is 31 and currently not scoring.
O'Connor is currently injured.

If SUFC had made the signings no doubt you'd have complained....

Healy - shit, hasnt had a game in ages and on massive wages.

o'connor - fat, shit hasnt had a game in ages and on massive wages.

no thanks.

Healey & O'Connor?

What...these 2?

I would be furious if we wasted ha'penny on O'Connor I saw him loads of times at Hibs and he was better then than he is now and he was still shit !!!!

I can't decipher what you're on about. Is it something to do with Evans?
As for finances, I only had half an ear on Speed's interview but it sounded like he had no answers to the de Laet question or any other question about signings.
Perhaps it'll be clearer in a few weeks seeing as we're going to get f all from the club in the meantime.

So Len, just so we are clear, you think we should have signed O'Connor or Healey?

Oh Lenny, you are a silly sausage. Can't decipher a simple statement? Its not rocket science. Deary me.

Let me spell it out for you.

You started a thread suggesting that because this week Barnsley and Donny have both loaned in a PL benchwarmer for a month, and we haven't. You've then taken this as some kind of excuse to make some veiled comments about SUFC's finances, based on your own supposition.

I simply suggested that you open up your horizon from 1 week to 2 weeks, this week and last week in which case the count of PL benchwarmer 1 month loans is Barnsley = 1, Donny = 1, SUFC = 1, and then asked how you manage to draw your conclusion about the finances of the club from these facts.

'Injury prone donkey' was how you famously announced the arrival of Rob Hulse to the club, so I have since taken this as the benchmark of what we should be looking for...

Please stop making salient points, LS26. The point of this thread is to ridicule Len in the usual pavlovian fashion.

'Injury prone donkey'

An accurate description of 2007-8 Rob Hulse, as it turned out.

No Rev the point of this thread was for Len to have ANOTHER go at United in whatever way possible.
Just because some people disagree with him and say so doesn't mean they are ridiculing him.

I personally don't think who other clubs sign is any concern of United's unless it is a United player.
When the team goes out n the pitch it doesn't matter who they play against, the aim is still supposed to be the same - beat the opposition - plain and simple.
They are only 11 men at the end of the day.

Out of the three players mentioned on here we definately got the best deal:-

a) because we needed a midfielder more than a forward.
&
b) because Healy and O'Connor are passed it and never been it respectively.

Donny will be emptying the purse for Healy because John Ryan is desperate to have them pushing for promotion. He's gone for a player that peaked two years ago and has put all his eggs in that basket rather than not wasting the money and looking to use it in January to build the squad further.

O'Connor is just a typical Barnsley signing.....so, so.....he'll do a job without making any real difference. Andy Reid on the other hand is a quality player and always has been. He was also getting regular games in the PL last season and performing to a high standard.

I have a lot of things concerning United that I could moan about but I dont see where you're coming from here len.

I agree with the rest you said,

But the deal for Healy makes sense for Donny, if Sharp is still out - they need another replacement to step upto the mark.
Better to spend their money now and not get further behind the pack, rather than wait till January when Sharp will be back.

I don't see anybody ridiculing len, just pointing out the flaw in his latest half-baked pop at the club.

len, I'm really worried about our finances too and I certainly don't believe what's in the audited accounts, even if I understood them.

I've asked this before, and I expect you've been too busy digging into what's wrong with the club to reply, but will you, for all our sakes, get yourself down to the AGM and sort it out for us?

So the fact that we brought in a superior player last week isn't relevant?

I just want Len to be clear about what his problem is. Does he think we should of signed one of these two player?

You lot moan about Len not seeing the wider picture, on the other hand the more enlightened of us shall we say in terms of all things SUFC finances can clearly see he is very much talking sensibly, yet again, about the wider picture. Namely, SUFC are now struggling to compete with Donny and Barnsley - totally irrelevant if personal preference means you don't like these particluar players. If Barnsley and Donny sign players then obviously it should be of no concern to SUFC because if we are in the same league as them we should be competing for players of a far higher calibre than they are. Unfortunately however McCabe is desperately struggling to keep everything going in this deep recession and we have no centre-backs, no strikers worthy of the name and people talk about Reid as if he is a permanent signing we should build our team around.

I understand your point robbie, but what I'm saying is based on my belief that Healy wont step up to the mark. Mainly because he is passed it and partly because ive always believed he was a little overrated anyway. He had a little scoring run for a couple of years with Northern Ireland (mostly goals against minnows) and that makes him a top class player apparently!

When he got to the PL he was found out as being very ordinary. Donny will be paying him a fortune and he is a shadow of what used to be a very average player. If they need a striker now they should have looked elsewhere. They've gone for a name, not for ability.

The signing of Reid, welcome though it was, does not change Len's point.

This team has obvious weaknesses. It has a number of players not good enough for this division. Its good players are playing badly. But little is being done to change this. We are sleepwalking towards the bottom 3.

The point remains United have needed a new striker, preferably one with pace but definitely one that scores goals.
We have scored 9 goals in 14 games.
That we haven't got one when other teams with already stronger goal scoring records have made moves to improve their forward lines underlines our position.
It is an entirely fair enough point.
However, I do add the rider that I think the interview I heard with Speed was by Paul Walker and having heard him joke about his strike breaking this morning his credibility has now dissolved.
