Have you changed your mind??

Yes, I have changed my mind, very, very slightly. Hard not to on back of 6 unbeaten. Very enjoyable seeing Harper and Williamson in tandem but I do think Harper's lack of mobility will get exposed in next two and for all the moans I have about Monty I could understand Blackie picking him and Willo next Saturday. Will be interesting to see what he does.

5 games ago we were in a mess, had a terrible performance against Barnsley and we were all expecting blackwell to get the axe. 5 games later won 4, drawn 1 and were in a lot better position.

I thought at the time that the game at Barnsley was a bit of a turning point. yes, we were disjointed and played like strangers, but we fought our way to a draw, coming back from behind twice. Hindsight is easy, but after Scunthorpe and Blackpool, the draw against the Dingles was the start of the recovery.

Did you want blackwell to get the sack after the barnsley game and now you don't because of the up turn in form?

I personally still don't think he will give us the success i want.

My stance has not changed in that I don't want that clown managing this beautiful football club now, just as I did after the Barnsley game.

Credit where it is due. We have won 4 of the last 6 are are undefeated. Can't complain at that. The football that has been served up has been awful but we've grinded out results. Since having a fully fit team Blackwell has seemingly turned things around. We are now in reach of the play offs and could mount a promotion push if we spend well in January.

But come on, look at the squad he has at his disposal. We should be much further up the league. We've won a few games, but overall we've been gash this season. In a truly rubbish division Blackwell makes us look very, very mediocre.

What about if (big fucking IF) he actually got us to the Premiership. that would be embarressing. I'm sure we'd do a Derby. the guy is tactically inept and has no plan B; we'd be found out straight away. It doesn't matter as he won't take us up anyway. The sooner that plank leaves sheffield united the better.

BLACKWELL OUT!

Can't see him getting the boot this season so the ideal is we get promotion and then the day after we move him sideways or any other way we can.

Mind changed - no. Well done for turning it around? Yes, but shouldn't have been in that hole to start with.

Yeah, but I'd wait until we've won the Champions League. Then we can really put the boot in on that loser.

I must admit ive been a big critic of Blackwell but that performance against Palace knocked me for 6. I didnt think we were capable of playing such football. Blackwell confuses me. He clearly is capable of managing and motivating but all too often he reverts to lumping the ball long in the hope it will hit somebody on the arse and drop to a blades player.

His signings leave a lot to be desired too. Ward and perhaps Williamson from the bit ive seen of him, apart im struggling to think of another decent value for money signing. All in all i think he is destined to always be the 'nearly' man, but i would love to be wrong and have egg on my face celebrating at Wembley come May!!

I appreciate the humour JD but isn't it SUFC that matters above all else? If Blacko gets us up I shall gladly buy him a magnum of champers, all posters on here a pint and an orange and passion fruit J2O for Monty. Then I would sack Blacko.

I would have been the last to support firing NW after promotion but, just like K-Mac, I am now convinced it would have been exactly the right thing to do.

I bet a season in the Premiership under Captian Marvel (or whoever else who would have come on the back of a big playing career but mediocre management career as that was the style of manager KM was looking for at that paticular time) would have been a right barrel of laughs.

If Blackwell got us up, i would give him the courtesy of managing us in the Premiership and think it would be the sensible thing to do in terms of continuity and developing what we already have in to a Premiership outfit.

I see your point but i think it's made from too cold and calculated a perspective.

Maybe if we had got in a more prem experienced manager in we would've stayed up. However i think this sort of decision puts the club in a worse state in the long run because the best managers won't want to come to a club where the chairman has so little faith he sacks them even if they get the team promoted. Also can you imagine what would happen to the team spirit, steadily built up over the years Warnock was in charge?

No, sacking your manager after promotion is never a good decision, even if it looks so in the short term, the damage to team spirit and reputation of the club would be damaged for much longer.

All very interesting. I was pleased when Blackie was appointed. With all the advantages we had I thought we only needed an average manager to take us up - he fitted the bill perfectly - and he nearly did it. The circumstances have completely changed now money wise and we need to readjust. I don't see the sense in replacing him as he is doing as well,as can be expected. The real problem is that expectations have been raised and we are still getting over the hurt of the Wembley disappointment. When the same happened to Wednesday, Leeds and others they never readjusted and ended up in freefall. Wednesday are still paying for it. Ha.
We might, just get into the playoffs this year, but I'm not expecting it. Thing to do is get behind the team, give them confidence to play, celebrate when we win and turn off when we lose. I've enjoyed watching United since 1965 - we lost the first game and my Grandfather said. 'They'll allus let thi darn kid' They haven't and the best times are still ahead!! UTB.

That's absolute lunacy. You could argue that Warnock blew his chance in the premiership, but we were damn unlucky to go down. If Colin had kept us up (and he was mightily close) then I reckon that he would have done something similar to what Pulis is doing at Stoke. He would have spent wisely and cemented us in the premiership. We could have kept onto key players, such as Jags (for a season at least) and built on that. Other than Akinbye, warnock always spent cash well and we all know that he was very good at getting the best out of his players.

Good post.

It seems very unlikely that Blackwell will be sacked, after this run of games, and hence i'll be getting behind the team. My views won't change, but I'll celebrate when we win and try my best to enjoy what looks like it will be a frustrating season. I can only hope that Blackwell will resign during the summer and we'll get a better manager in.

Sorry mate. He didn't spend well. You need Premiership players for the Premiership. We bought also-rans; Pulis has bought some thoroughbreds.

NW thought he could do it on scrapping and battling and a bit of luck. He didn't bring in a single player of real quality, crucially so in midfield.

After 38 games you finish where you deserve. Ain't no luck about it!

Have a look at who we signed in the January 2007 transfer window, see how much they contributed to our fight to stay up, and then let us know if you still think the above statement is true...

Was it bad luck that their cheating relegated us rather than Wigan, Fulham et al?

no, it was bad luck that their cheating relegated us, not them. A case agreed by several courts and most unbiassed pundits. A case so convincing we received £25M in compensation. Fairly cut and dried, from where I'm sat.

UTB

For the prime example that Warnock always spent well, I give you Geoff Horsfield. Warnock wanted a million pound waste of money, and he got it. Bargain.

Actually, Warnock, like Bassett, was great at unearthing cheap players, but not so good with a big wad of money. Look at what he's managed to do at Palace, on a budget tighter than a gnat's bumhole.

Don't tell our esteemed chairman that the circumstances have changed. We have one of the top 4 or 5 wage bills in the tier.

Why is he doing as well as can be expected? He has blown vast sums on Cotterill and in my opinion Evans. I could not disagree with you more.

Your 1st statement: what about Rob Hulse? Matt Kilgallon? Kazim Richards? I suppose you think that Nade was shit as well?

He shifted out Andy Gray and brough in Danny Webber. In the promotion season he brought in Shipperley. All crap signings.

Marcus Bent, Michael Brown, Steve Kabba were awful too.

Only a clown would not think we were unlucky. Sure, the league table never lies, but what about the Tevez ruling? How about the fact we got 38 points and last season Hull staye dup with 34? I suppose you think Fulham staying up because Benitez rested 11 first team players was not unlcuky for us? Webber hitting the post, pissing 2 penalties in one game, being chated by that scouse tag rag Gerrard: none of those unlucky?

Don't get me wrong matey, I don't look back and complain about West Ham etc. We had a simple task on the last day to not lose, at home, to a shit team that hadn't won for 6 weeks. We bottled it. Warnock blew it. However, to say there was no element of bad luck in that season is pure horse shit.

Is Hulse in the Prem? Is Kazim? Will Brown be for long? Nade was indeed shit! What's he doing now? How many premiership goals has he scored? Why is Kabba at Brentford and Burton Albion? Warnock did not sign the hugely overrated Marcus Bent - that was Heath. He did sign Luton Shelton though - where's he now?

As to bad luck; all teams have it. Webber hitting the post was bad finishing not bad luck. Why was Jags playing basketball?

West Ham cheated the whole league, not just us. Why did we not have it in us to finish one place higher? Because we were not good enough. We failed to bring in players of Premiership quality. Every one of the players you name makes my point stronger.

out and i still want him out. ok we played quite well in parts against palace.. we'll see tomorrow who the midfield is.. he will drop williamson or harper for monty.. you mark my words..

I don't think there's been much of an upturn in form.

I still think he's holding us back.

Whether that makes sacking him the right thing to do or not, I'm not sure.

There's undoubtedly been a huge upturn in results, and a large upturn in defensive performance. Our attacking still sounds a bit lacklustre.

We went from bottom of the form table to into the top 4/5.

I think he's holding us back in the sense that we need more belief to go out and win games, and Blackwell is too cautious of the opposition.

The three "ones for the future" Seck..Ahmed..Shelton - where are they now??

Really upset me the stick Warnock is getting on this string. OK he blew it on the big day but I'd have snapped anyone's hand off at start of term to be going into that last game with 38 points on the board. I'd have taken a chance to get to 41 and almost certain safety given past required totals. 38 is usually enough. I still argue at work with a Blade who says his away tactics cost us. 10 points is a reasonable total in my opinion for a promoted side. It gives you a chance anyway. I know we were woeful in parts but it wasn't a total disaster.

Hull were incredibly lucky to stay up with 34 I think and everyone raves about them as being such a breath of fresh air, signed attacking players etc. We got more points and overall were just incredibly unlucky in my opinion.

Got to agree here. Whichever way you look at it, being relegated by one goal is unfortunate.
