And bought a striker that will score the goals we need? Done was excellent tonight, closed down, got back and made some brilliant runs (some were offside) but i believe that was the assisters job to time his run correct in some cases..

McNulty not so after he came on....

I thought he had great potential to be that goal scorer we need but I dont want to jinx it after 1 game (although it was a good performance)

Done is one of the most exciting new players I have ver seen come to the Lane. OK his runs need work, start them 2 yards back and get through balls in front of him and he will leave scorch marks over the defenders shirt.

I am in the John Street stand and when the ball went through I thought he was found to wide and when he shot I thought is going wide but the placement and curl were superb viewed from behind.

The second disallowed goal, what, hand ball? Gutted for him be the speed he collected, turned and shot looks like a new Kevin Phillips and puts me in mind to nickname him...... The FLASH

He'll be caught offside a lot less when he adapts to how the assisters play him in, that was more the case tonight

I'm not sure that done will be the player we desperately need, Im not sure he's physical enough, but he was indeed excellent tonight and his development is clearly ahead of McNulty. McNulty will learn a lot from him, next season these two will be a real threat. Done though is ready now and will get some goals, that's for sure.

It'll be interesting to see how he does against a better side... On Saturday.

I touched on it on the tonight thread, but I Done does what I want McNulty to did - anticipate.

Done's runs tonight were perhaps not what the assisters (if that's what we're calling them) were expecting, but theyll get used to how he expects the ball and play it in accordingly. The key for strikers is playing on that back foot of the defender, so it's always going to be close to being offside. But if the balls are played early, assisters anticipating the striker runs and vice versa it's hard to defend.

Were you sat next to me ?? Thought exactly the same and my mate said Kevin Philips too.

'Assisters' came off the top of my head but I've now seen the word that much that its starting to look weird

Totally agree. Done looks like he will be OK but is not the answer to our long-standing strikers problem (and I hope NC doesn't spin it that way). A big, battering-ram guy is essential at this level.

No, I can't name one. Thought that was NC's brother's job. :)

Done played very well last night, I am going to hold against declaring him to be the best thing since sliced bread at this moment in time though. Lets see how he gets on against Bristol on Saturday and judge him over the next few games rather than just one.

Loved his enthusiasm though, he was willing to chase down every ball and must have been a defenders nightmare at times. Wish his second goal didn't get disallowed as it was a great finish.

7 games without a goal, and some rather poor performances from McNulty. Is it time to give him a rest and try De Girolamo on the bench for a couple of games?

We don't need a battering ram up front, when will people realise this. It's too early to make calls either way, but how can you say he's not a solution already. Just before his goal one of the many morons behind me said 'he's not a proper striker though is he?' Don't know what's more proper than all his runs and that finish.

Good observations there mate. As you infer, as long as there's a goal threat surely that's what counts? The same morons you mentioned would have said exactly the same if they'd witnessed a diminutive teenager called Messi skip onto the pitch. It's as if their imaginations are on hold and they have a stereotypical idea of what a player in a specific position should look like.

Although we took Rush at the tail-end of his career, in his prime he never subscribed to a battering ram ideal, but he was a superb goal-scorer. The same can be said of Jimmy Greaves, the great Denis Law, and any number of natural goal poachers you can care to name.

As you say, it's far too early to make a judgement of Done, but as first performances go we should be delighted with purchasing a player for what should prove not a great deal of money.
