With the exceptions of Gary Cahill and Kyle Walker, Have any of our loan signings been really any good for us?

My only other decent one from memory was Matt Phillips last year.

Bjorne Helge Riise was alright when he got on the pitch. Andy Reid and Greg Halford were both a class above anything we're likely to see coming in any time soon as well.

Denis Mortimer was OK (if only for getting Rodger Wylde sent off), Tom Heffernan and Mark Dempsey were both very good on loan and annoyingly shit once they'd signed permanently. I would say the best one we ever had (Cahill aside) was Dean Glover.
You'd think Nyron must have been something special seeing how we went and got him back the following season.

In light of reading Coops's post above, Bobby and Glynn Hodges were also excellent loanees.

Going back a long time, Bruce Rioch was an excellent loanee.

In addition to others mentioned above, Peschisolido, Kenny and Windass were all on loan to us and did well before signing permanently.

Greg Halford was excellent

Glynn Hodges - class player

Was Kenny on loan to us? I thought we bought him direct from Bratfot park avenue

He was initially on loan from Bury and signed permanently after a dozen games.

Kyle Bartley wasn't bad.

What was the name of the Arsenal centre half we had on loan in the mid 90s? Think he later player for Southampton.

Definitely Halford the best in my lifetime (probably a shorter life than most of you on here!!)
Other than that:
Phil Bardsley,
Nathan Dyer (when he played!),
Actually thought Shane Lowry was decent,
Izale Mcloed
Arturo Lupoli
Marcus Bent (Just kidding)

Going back a long time, Bruce Rioch was an excellent loanee.

Saw him play for us three times (I was at boarding school for the home games against Bristol Rovers and West Ham). He was really poor in the 2-0 defeat at Blackburn but did well in the 5-1 win against Notts County but was average in the 1-1 draw against Wrexham.

Was Gary Jones (from Bolton) the first player we signed on loan?

Some generous assessments above. Best loan players in last 25 years at the Lane IMHO are:

Glyn Hodges
Paul Peschisolido
Gary Cahill
Michael Brown
Andy Reid

All good players who added something to the team at that time!

Andy Reid was a class above.
Greg halford was mint.
George Donis?was he a loan?he was good.

It was quite a brief spell, but I remember Des Hamilton looking fairly decent in the middle of midfield for us.

Some that came with high expectations but were rubbish: Dean Sturridge, David Johnson and Ian Rush.

who the hell is des hamilton? rings a bell. was he the black chunky midfielder? if so, he did alright i think. blimey, obscure choice agogo. why didnt we sign him? i seem to remember he fitted in really well. i don't remember him after he played for us, did he get a job doing the bins?

ian rush oh my sweet potayties, he wasnt even that old i dont think but he was utter crapola for us. he looked like that fake player who played for arsenal once!

Got to echo Swiss to a great extent.

Glyn Hodges was superb on loan before we signed him and Greg Halford was easily our best player in the year we had him.

Remember Andy Kennedy?

Scored a fabulous goal whilst on loan, and had a number of decent games for us. Apparently wanted to come, but as always, our board wimped out on money, and every time he came back to the Lane after then, always scored....

Nothing changes...

Anthony Stokes. I believe he went on to score shit loads for every other club after us!
