How much is he on at Doncaster? Surely they can't be claiming more than the value of his contract?

Maybe they're doing what we should have done. Claiming for the amount it would take to replace a manager that would be (supposedly) hard to replace.

Can they do that though? If he wants to come and takes it to a tribunal, the tribunal wont set the fee at more than the contract is worth.

It raises an important point though, it's ok with players, they're part of a team. The manager is entirely different, and there is a certain amount of inconvenience that goes with losing the best manager you've ever had, with no guarantee of being able to replace him with one of equal talent. Taking him away from them could well end up with them losing points over the season, leading to a lower league position and therefore less payout from the league. Then there's the FA Cup.... I suppose it's hard to quantify SO'D's worth to them.

Not sure about a 1m, but this is where the likes of Birch should be really handy, its bartering time, should be his nitty gritty.

A manager and player are valued in complete different terms, its how football is, not how I make it, by the way I coach and I believe managers and coaches are majorily undervalued next to their over valued player counter parts. In general I think everything is overpriced in terms of wages a fees but thats just my opininon. I generally want that change you talk about to happen Yossarian but we should only pay compensation to what he is worth on the value of his remaining contract at Doncaster, as the Welsh FA supposedly did for Speed.

If his contract is worth £500k and they ask for £600k, you wouldn't go that extra bit further, though we feel it's worth the extra investment? I'd say "Do it". If we're truly looking to change the way we play and approach the game, and think that SOD is the man to do it, I think it's worth the investment up to, and possibly even more than £1m.

dont see why £1m seems unreasonable to alot of fans? We continuously complain that the club doesnt spend any money, then when we do, people complain?! we'd happily see the club spend £1m on a quality, proven player in this league, why not a manager?!
