West Ham did 3 things very well to stifle us.

They denied Norwood space.

They got 4 players into the left-back area fast every time we came down the right - meaning the short passing in between Lundstram, Baldock and Basham didn’t open up play like it usually would.

They kept O’Connell occupied so the left side wasn’t really an attacking option - probably why Fleck and McGoldrick looked so poor in the first half.

I was really impressed with how they stifled us - but all the more impressed about how we stepped it up and how good McBurnie and Mousset looked in the second half.

Mcburnie , in my opinion, was sensational the second 45. To their credit I have read on here before people saying an ever so slightly deeper role may suit and and they may have been right! He isn’t a target man despite his height. The best hold up player for me is sharp, but his football intelligence is brilliant. I still haven’t forgot him playing out wide in the Barnsley game 2 years ago and slaughtering us

in answer to the thread title yes as a striker. Number 10 role for him and another striker when Billy leaves.

No room for sentiment, this team might be good enough to get us promoted and keep us up this season, get us into the last 32 of the FA Cup and maybe get us into Europe but not to win those competitions. Man up Wilder.

McGoldrick looked like he couldn’t be arsed. Body language was all wrong. He wasn’t doing anything you associate with a good Didsy performance (we’ve accepted he doesn’t score). No tracking back, no link up, no hold up, no desire. He was second to every single ball and Oli was basically playing up front on his own for an hour. It just wasn’t him

You've correctly identified an issue i.e. McGoldrick's under-par performance, but, you've started to search for a cause for it.

I think McGoldrick was well below par, in fact I said to those near to me, I'd take him off and try something else, because he just wasn't doing it. But to suggest that might be down to him missing (yet another) goal at Brighton 3 weeks ago is a bit fanciful. "Post Traumatic Missed Goal Disorder" or something?

Fact is, he weren't at it last night. Nowt to do with what happened in another game. Everything to do with what happened in that game last night. That's all really.

As a huge McGoldrick fan I was shocked by his performance last night. He did nothing positive at all and looked disinterested, I wonder if something is happening behind the scenes that might explain it. Surely those transfer rumours to Leeds don’t have any real substance.

I think they were all poor against Liverpool - really disappointed with our effort there. I thought the team played well v Man City - I can't recall if I'm honest what sort of game McGoldrick had there - but I don't remember thinking he was poor in that game. I usually make a note of any player who has a bad performance and I make little voodoo dolls of them when I get home and stick pins in them.

Funny thing this - but I was in Nottingham this week and I got talking to a bloke in this shop in Beeston (Christ what a place that is! Run down hovel of town). The subject got round to football and he was a Forest fan. He was really complimentary about us and said how much he likes to watch us on MOTD - praising Wilder, praising the type of football we play. It was nice to hear. Then the conversation got around to players and McGoldrick's name came up - I was saying to him what an inspirational signing he'd been - and I said "he used to play for you didn't he?" To which he replied, "yeah, but we didn't rate him when he played for us - couldn't hit a barn door!".

So it seems that McGoldrick and barn doors have had a long running association and I can't see that changing much in the future tbh.

He was poor 1st half at home to Watford but returned to his normal standard 2nd half and was more than decent.
Away to Man City thought McGoldrick was decent/ good first half....faded away 2nd half.
Away at Liverpool he was poor (along with many others) the whole match.
Agains West Ham thought he struggled last night....looked tired....or maybe Moyes was using tactics to take McG out of the game.

Agree.....there’s a trend that his form is seeing a downturn.
However to be honest we’ve just played 2 of the best teams in the world so no wonder McGoldrick struggled to perform.
