So proud of Harry and he’ll always be a Blade in my eyes. But surely he’s outgrown Leicester now?

His reading of the game was his most obvious quality when I first saw him.Exceptional. I've very rarely seen him having to slide tackle, which is a sign of a top defender.I do think players with less athletic qualities have more of a slow burner of a career, because they can't get out of jail using pace.I still think the right sided centre half position in a four (preferably with a quick partner) or the centre of a back three is his best position - with and without the ball. More angles to pass the ball, easier to carry the ball directly towards goal, and less contact with pacy wingers/wing backs. In the last England game we played on the counter attack and Young sat deeper, probably due to worrying about Cuadrado exploiting this.
I spoke to a Hull city player about Maguire he said technically Harry was very good but his positioning when defending was shocking , any guesses on the player I spoke to?

If it was Michael Dawson it'd be laughable considering his playing limitations (his main limitation was positional sense). The only one fit to make a judgement, never mind a criticism, would be Curtis Davies. He's been very effusive about Maguire's qualities and - always - knowing his potential recently, so it seems unlikely it would be him.Don't tell me it's Alex Bruce?

all defenders are suspect against real pace. in fact i have heard it argued that if you have to resort to pace then you must have been out of position in the first place.. like Harry Bobby Moore had no pace but superb positioning

Agree no better exponent of the CB position than Paul McGrath who we were treated to a superb 6 months in a Blades shirt when he redefined the art of reading the game. His legs had gone but his mind hadn't. He was still in position before the oppo. forward had delivered the ball. Harry is growing with every game, his reading of the game is getting better. None of those mentioned have the ball carrying abilities of HM. He just needs to run with the ball like he did when he was at SUFC and unleash his rocket shot.

Yes it was Alex Bruce

Pundits round up: “Harry Maguire was sensational defensively and with the ball,” said former England manager Glenn Hoddle.
Gary Neville added: “He deserved a special mention. Sometimes you think about a performance where someone goes from being ‘Are you sure about him? Is he going to be good enough?’ to being a centre-back with a performance like that.
“It was absolutely brilliant, the courage and stepping in to midfield was absolutely fantastic.”
Ian Wright said: “I remember watching him when he played for Sheffield United and he would get the ball and go through the whole team.“Sheffield United fans were cheering and they would big him up, the way he passed the ball and ran with the ball.
“He does it at this level, tried the runs out the back, runs through midfield and take chances with his passes. We need that.”
Alan Shearer selected Maguire as his star man on the BBC’s highlights show: “I was impressed with Maguire tonight,” Shearer said. “(Colombia) didn’t offer a lot going forward, but he did very well in bringing the ball out and sliding those passes through.”

Ian Wright must have got it all wrong. Surely the Blades fans were shouting at him to get rid, hoof it, gerritforrerd,... No Blades fans would ever want him to dribble or pass the ball. We know this because Pinchy tells us this regularly. ;)

Harry!!!!!
No haaaaarrryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Wonder what those 'knowledgeable' wendy fans who couldn't wait to say "he has the turning circle of a bus" and was too slow think right now. So pleased for the lad. Next year Brooksie will be scoring in the Euro's for Wales....we should be right up there ffs

How much is worth now?
He’ll go for proper money Real or Barca
A true produce of our youth system

Leicester will at worst double their money on him within 12 months. He's going to a top 10 european club after the WC. He (or his dad or his agent) has managed his career to date perfectly, right club at the right time. I think he'd benefit from playing abroad. Athletico Madrid or such like, replace Godin.

Another solid game plus a goal!
Those defenders must crap themselves when they see that big monster Arry bearing down on them.
You take him,no you take him,no take him, oh shit!

Harry Maguire the ex Blade in a World Cup semi final? Can't be.Old leadboots is too slow for the championship. I should know,t he majority on here told me and a couple of others so. Come on Russia (I think).

MaGuire not Kane (although he was pretty good). For me our Harry was head and shoulders the best player on the park, what a fantastic footballing CB. We saw his potential at the Lane but how he's developed is incredible. Possibly the best England CB since Moore.

I’m so pleased for the kid.
He will have a World Cup medal and be playing for a top four team soon

Go f yourself McCabe for selling off all the talent we bought through.

He is the football equivalent of Herman off the Munsters. Everybody likes him. Even though he’s a monster!

Nic, take a deep breath mate. Double their money? Given today's crazy market I think Maguire would easily be worth upwards of £60-70 million given the level of display he's shown so far. And he'd be worth it. Steve Bruce seriously thought that his son was a better choice than Maguire, and we're lead to believe that nepotism has no place in football?

His agent will be quoting ex England captain Martin Keown (even though it was for one game) - he was jizzing all afternoon while Harry was playing.

I think he'll be approaching Walker money at least.

Easily I'd have thought Tom. The defence has looked good apart from a few moments where focus seemed suspended. Maguire's been the best of a decent bunch, and apart from Citeh I can see serious interest from abroad rear it's head.

Some people on here are so deluded it’s quite funny.

Everton are forced to sell there biggest talent to Man Utd, even though Rooney was a die hard Everton supporter.

Manchester United (one of the richest most ambitious clubs in the world) are forced to sell Christiano Ronaldo.

Almost every player moves on when they outgrow a club.

Maguire was consistently one of the best defenders in league 1 but some of our fans still would have preferred to stall his devlopement and force him to remain in league 1.

If we’d have gained promotion he’d have more likely extended his contract but he’s hardly going to go stake in league 1.

I’ll let people into a secret.......if an individual becomes a stand out player at any club, then a bigger fish comes along to take them.

The selling club normally accept when they believe it will benefit that club. Southampton have always sold their best players but they’ve re-invested and remain in the PL. Monaco and Porto are constantly selling off their crown jewells but then re-invest to improve the team.

If we had held Maguire to his contract and refused to sell, then we’d still probably be in league 1 now.

If he can just keep his temper in check when niggled by opposition he's an amazing prospect for a top top team. Excellent defender, great header of the ball, composed passer, and he can score goals with his feet too, scored a reyt goal for Leicester last season that a striker would have been proud of.
