Surely a bid must come in for the lad.
Will we turn it down?

I fully expect to start the season without Lowton, (obviously!) Harry, Quinn, Monty, K-Mac and Willo......we're Sheffield United, it's what happens.

Metal, how do you know it was the "first bid from the first bidder".....?

£3m for Lowton suggests to me that it wasn't a first bid to a club with a "fire sale" on.

Selling Lowton to the first bid from the first bidder .

From what I have been told by someone inside the club last week is that we had 4 bids for Lowton from 3 different clubs. 2 Championship Clubs and the Villa one. Not exactly the 'first bid' . I've not been able to find out what the fee is thou or what the bids were.

We've had one enquiry from a Championship club for Quinn and the same for Maguire as at last week but no bids (yet)

Selling club? Maybe change that top a league 1 club how has to cut their cloth.

If we get more that £1.5m for Harry then yet again that will be good business IMO. As long as the transfer fees are used to strengthen (or part of it)

I'm of the view that the Lowton sale wasn't too bad a bit of business. If it's 3 million and we get some of the cash to strengthen, then it's an excellent bit of business. And then there are shades of grey in between.

BUT, if we sell Harry for 1.5 million I'll be furious. If we have one asset that we should be very 'Southampton' about and ask for the moon and stars, then it's Harry. If he loses a bit of weight he'll be a top 10 Premier side within a few years and for that we must expect 5 million as an absolute bare minimum.

When Lowton was asked on the Radio interview if their had been interest for a while he replied no not until last week which suggests to me Villa where the first club to make a bid and that SUFC couldn't wait to sell, but you guys can believe there has been a queue of clubs banging on the doors for weeks if it makes you feel better. And I don't believe for a minute we got £3m for him as originally quoted in the media, reports now suggest it was less than £2m and rumours suggest half of that could be dependant on appearances in the Premiership and for England which off course will never happen, we already sold the best young right back in England by far as part of a buy one get one free deal.

The clubs will make bids to SUFC who will then decide which, if any, bid meets their valuation. Then, I guess, is when they let the bidding club(s) speak to the player. Lowton will probably only have learned of any interest when the bidding club(s) have been given permission to speak to him

When Harry (or anybody of value) is sold, we'll never know what the fee is. The club aren't likely to disclose any fees if they can get away with for two reasons

Firstly, if we are bidding for other payers and it is announced we have just had a £3mill windfall, surprise, surprise, the prices of the players we are bidding for suddenly goes up

Secondly, any players we have offered contracts to decide we can afford more so they stall on accepting until we offer more.

I think the sale of Lowton makes it less likely that McD, Willo and Quinn will stay as they see their better colleague(s) being sold.

For me, I'm happy to get rid of the lot, get the club financially viable, have a season in League 1 consolidating and then push for the title next season

Which destroys the argument that the player gets upset if we stand in is way of going to a premiership club, Lowton never knows of interest until SUFC tell him ? Come on pull the other one. That being the case why not just tell Villa to "do one" he is not for sale ? Maybe we are just a club that sells at the first opportunity ?

I'd take decent money for Harry and get an experienced pacey centre half in plus one or two others.

Of course, when Villa 'unofficially' tell Lowton's agent of the bid,he will keep it to himself won't he.

The rumours and speculation about the fee are just that. The way these things work means that sometimes, even the player doesn't know(sometimes the buying club doesn't want them to know to take some pressure off). It is possible that only the two board of directors and the football secretaries actually know the fee. My contact at the club reports directly to the Board and he says this one has been brewing for a while and negotiations ongoing between the clubs but there has been no hint of any transfer fee being disclosed . Maybe he has gone on a free

Of the same opinion as houso. We should be looking for top dollar for Harry.

No one will pay top dollar due to his lack of pace. We should however do what we can to keep him unless it's a largish fee.

Harry won't be the next one out anyway :)

Stop being cryptic and give us the info...:)

You must be replying to someone else as I never said anything about a player getting upset.

No club in their right mind would let any player know they were a hot property - the players agent might of course

Why not tell Villa to do one? Because we have no money and every player has his price. I doubt any club would refuse a player the opportunity to better himself if he had the chance. Their's no point keeping frustrated unhappy players just because we have their signature on a contract.

We may have actually sold Lowton at the best price we can get for him

Isn't BM the site where the JJ to Blades rumour started ?

im happy to trade addresses and il send 10 english pounds to anyone who wants to take me on. Harry Maguire will be playing in a United shirt next season. any takers? (@metalblade)?

seriously, at his age he'd be mad to go anywhere when he's getting a game. worst case scenario is he leaves and gets loaned back, but i really cant see it.

i would.. problem is they won't do that .. they won't ringfence any sale monies for new players .. it will go on montys wages :(
i'm with metal on this.. quinn and monty will stay because noone will buy them and decent players like willo kmac and harry will go.. it happens EVERY SEASON

i dont think harry will go, i can remember him saying that he doesnt want to leave us.. and regardless of still being in league 1 hes a faithful player, and his family certainly want him to stay at bramall lane.. if he does go though, a couple of million should just about satisfy me i reckon.. its just a shame we have no replacement cb's

I don't want Harry to go but he still has a lot to learn & certainly isn't good enough for the Prem. Personally I thought Collins was our most consistent central defender last season. And like others have said, I think we need more pace in central defence and would prefer a quicker player alongside Harry or Collins.
