According to a contact who supports Swansea he’s after £35k per week. Toppy for a championship centre back that

3 aerial duels won.

I hereby state, with witnesses, that I'll drop my kecks on Fargate if he signs for us this month

He can want that much, but ain’t getting it at Swansea.
He won’t get it here either while there’s the need for a transfer fee up front, I suspect he will hope to see the season out without injury and see what happens in the summer.

Only chance we may have would be if we could get Swansea to take a fee if we go up….so maybe a small fee now and a big bonus chunk if we go up with him playing.

Some reports that Bristol City and Birmingham are interested, might just be agent talk but if it is genuine, then I'm baffled if we're not keen too.

More blocks than a box of lego.

Gets caught out for one of the chances but recovers really well and makes the block anyway

Probably the best attacking centre half in the division. If we were still playing with a 3 at the back, encouraging our CBs to go forward, he'd be great.

As it is, we're looking for a commanding CB to replace Souttar and compliment Anel.
Harry Darling doesn't look like that, his defensive stats don't stack up well against the rest of the division.

I wouldn't mind having him as an option, but for the money it would cost and I'm not sure I'd pursue it.

Yeah that's stuff I'd considered too, but I think it's down to the role he has to play at Swansea.

Judging from a few displays this season, he's definitely not shy of getting in the way of a player or a shot and he's been like a brick wall for them when needed.

Thing is with Swansea, they're always faffing about at the back and hogging possession without really going anywhere...they've averaged 61% in the championship this year, which I think skews Darling's defensive stats a little, as he's not usually having as much involvement as other teams' defenders might.

Not only that..they've actually had 17536 touches this season so far and a staggering 13886 of those have been in the Defensive 3rd or Midfield 3rd.

I think he's a cracking all round player, can carry the team forward and be an outlet when required (be nice to have competition/back up for Anel if they can't play together for any reason) but can also do the backs to the wall stuff...it's just that he gets little chance to do so at Swansea because they're too busy being, well, Swansea.

Agree with you about the cost though, if he's available for £5m or less and wants less than £30/40k then absolutely sign him...but if it's considerably more than it'd definitely need further consideration

If our interest in Omobamidele is legit but ultimately unsuccessful Darling would be a much more logical alternative in terms of style of play than someone like Hanley

I like what you said there. Against the likes of Sunderland, when they've pressed us high up the pitch, we've panicked a bit. So if Darling is comfortable on the ball, then hopefully that can improve that particular problem.

N.b. I am not expecting us to play like Swansea/ Southampton just cos we sign him 😁

I'd rather Darling to be honest.
But Swansea won't want to loan him obviously.

Have you got one for the 4-0 loss to Pompey.

One of the goals it appeared that he dillied then dallied.

Absolutely...

He's not perfect and I'm a big believer in a balanced outlook so I'm aware he does have bad games.

Third goal is the one you mean (around the 01:00 mark) and it's definitely a bit of a howler.

No idea what had gone on with Swansea in this game as the whole defence looks absolutely lost in this video.

I actually think Darling doesn't look too bad for the other highlights, considering how bad Swansea were. Could possibly have done better for the 4th but I don't think you can fairly blame him for missing that header

Cost Swansea a goal. Didn't make an attempt to clear a corner and let a Cardiff player in to score with a powerful header. Hopefully this is one we don't go after

Irrespective of his performance today, I have to say he isn't one that I was overly bothered about us going after.

If we can't get a top Championship defender with Prem potential, it makes sense to get two very decent Championship defenders that are out of contract soon.

Not meaning to be greedy, but Darling and Dunne give us strength in depth where we're very weak.

That’s my only concern it gives us depth which is fantastic. But that would still leave us a left side centre half short.

Darling is an excellent player though.

If we can't get Woolfenden then this would be the next best. Only going to improve as well.

We'll be getting Kenny for RB so it would only be one of Dunne or Darling

Don't get Kenny, then I'd gladly take both, stick Dunne RB and play hoof it to Jimmy

Dunne and Darling is also a viable CB partnership

Darling and Anel.... not so much. I'd see Darling as a possible replacement for Anel. His possible departure is another reason we should look to strengthen permanently in the right defensive area. We only have Anel and Seriki contracted and there are doubts about both. This scenario with Dunne and Darling out of contract is something we could look to exploit
