GIlchrist won't be going back and it is past the point Chelsea can recall him. I wouldn't sign a right back either but I do wonder if Seriki's injury record is the main reason behind it. Although Choudhury can play right back, I would be very surprised if we see him there. Ideally I think they would want 4 centre halves, we will sign one and Gilchrist will be the 4th option there
We have 4 already Anel Robbo Alfie & Baptiste.

That's the biggest concern if CW thinks that 4 is good enough

Guessing this is why we gave Hertha Berlin that deadline on JJK, sounds like it's been progressing quickly in the background (if it is true that he's having his medical today).

Given that this is our last loan signing, CB signing (sounds like it's Harry Darling) looks like it will be a permanent deal?

Probably for the best that we get a permanent CB in this window, given that we're going to lose a CB (Robbo) in the summer.

I think Gilchrist especially recently has been very poor. I think he seems to have lost some confidence especially attacking wise. He seems to be very negative.

He’s a young lad so his form will vary. Think we need someone with more experience to play.

Think this criticism of Gilchriest is unfair.
How can he show his best when he’s being played out of position.
In his 1st game or 2 at right back he looked quite poor but then gradually became used to his new posistion.

It does make me wonder how significant Wilders comment was last week.
When asked about centre half cover….he brought up the name Gilchriest…..saying he can play that position.

Gilchriest looked the part last year in the Premier league last season but didn’t he play in a back 5….as part of 3 central defenders.
Makes me wonder if Wilder is planning on moving Gilchriest in the middle and maybe even experimenting with a back 5.

were signing harry darling on a permanent arnt we ?
Looks like it, probably be easier to sign him instead of Jimmy Dunne given that QPR have an outside chance of getting into the playoffs and won't want to lose such a key player.

I used to be all for long term planning but getting out of the Champ and then recruiting a squad to tackle the Prem are such different things, I'm all for shorter term planning to give Utd the best possible chance of getting up and replanning in the summer. Signing Hogan and the Washing Machine first time around demonstrated how to do it well - neither were ever going to be signed for the Prem (although I still think Madine would have been a useful option from the bench in that first season).

Pigs will be upset they put a bid in to ,shame . Get ready now for them to tell us he is crap .

Massive loss. He's our only player capable of turning a game on its head from the bench.

We seem to have been really unlucky regards injuries again.
It’s been like this for a few years now…with so many players constantly picking up strains.
Some might say it can’t be constantly blamed on bad luck and maybe the conditioning back room team are at fault.

Don’t understand this obsession with getting a right back in when a centre half is a priority.
The order the signings are coming off aren't necessarily the order Wilder has things prioritised. Wilders number 1 CB target might be the hardest one to get over the line and the one we've done the most work on. Souttar's spot is the biggest to fill and Chris knows that. We have players to cover every position except CB so the other transfers haven't had to be guarantee starters ie might have been easier to get

Maybe I’m an anomaly or just don’t have my finger on the pulse or lack knowledge, but the confidence from some on here on judging the ability of players who don’t play for us baffles me.

Surely 95% on here have perhaps seen a couple of 90 minute performance when playing against us, or the odd minute or two on game highlights? Even then could you honestly recall a RBs performance?

We’ve had:

“Fantastic player”
“Excellent signing”
“Underwhelming”
“Play off Signing”
“No thanks”

Guess there are examples on higher profile players, eg Hamer had significant pedigree.

But Harry Clarke? No idea I’m afraid.

Don’t know enough about him to have an opinion on his signing.

But if it at least gives us the option of playing gilchrist at CB. Given we only have 2 senior centrebacks available (especially with how consistently abysmal our injury record has been for the past 3/4 years).

We still need a another centreback imo, but at least it gives us some more cover rather than potentially blowing promotion with an untimely injury / suspension

Hilarious reading on porktalk they were so excited then someone said why are beaten to a player by Sheffield United. Made me laugh
yeah just looked myself from him being a great signing for them now hes rubbish and wilder only signing him cos they were in for him hilarious 🐷

Will this be all loans used?

Essentially, yes.

Only allowed 5 in any matchday squad.
We will have Gilchrist, Clarke, Choudhury, BBD & JRS.

We could sign another loan player, but would mean leaving one of the loanees out.
Presumably one of Clarke / Gilchrist given they play same position.

My gut says we'll go for Harry Darling at CB. Wrong type of CB in my opinion, but cheap due to contract situation.

posted similar on another thread about gilchrist going rcb in a 3 and it makes sense if were not bringing another cb in added to that clarke sounds a better rwb than rb plus a back 3 is the only way our captain stays in the starting 11 imo

Hoping that the centerback situation will be a permanent and not just gilchrist moved there.

True - I've never seen this lad play but his stats don't suggest any attacking prowess - have you seen him play ?

The plan can't be Gilchrist. He's so far off what we need in a CB and I think Wilder knows that.
He can fill in there and if we move to a 3, he could play RCB... but I'm positive that Gilchrist replacing Souttar won't be the Plan A.

I don't think we are likely to make a permanent CB signing that has the capability of stepping up if we are to get promoted. That would take a lot of money and the selling club would have minimal time to adequately replace. It would be a very tough deal to make in a short space of time.
The domestic CB market seems very scarce.
