I am very grateful for Guzzrate of BladesMad for posting this and I just had to share it

"A bit premature, granted.
But I wanted to put this idea forward now because it is the answer to nearly all the threads about the atmosphere and support at BTDBL.
On Sat, the 29th December, the first ever football match was played at BDTBL 150 years ago.
I though it would be a nice and also a more practical touch to actually just raise a sea of United Scarves to the Greasy Chip Butty song".

According to another poster,
"I was a bit surprised to find that the game between Sheffield and Hallam was in aid of the Lancashire Distress Fund as a result of interrupted imports of cotton due to the American Civil War ! This would have been a very big deal at the time."
