Best player ever for us to date no one has got near him. The quality TC had left visiting fans questions outside the Lane. “Is Currie playing?” Never heard the likes of that before or since. He was that good pure quality. I was privileged to have watched him

Remember the legend that was Motty on MOTD, " a quality goal, from a quality player". Brian Clough, labelling the Currie/Woodward corner technique as undefendable , and commenting how he could not understand why Woody never got a full England call up.

Had the pleasure of a bit of Currie mentorship and tutorship as a nipper in the school of excellence. I remember initially I was quite daunted by him as he spent the majority of the time in a long, thick blades coat, simply stood with his arms folded. He didn’t really speak much, instead nodded his head or used facial gestures.

I remember him telling us all that “this up here (points at his head) is as important as these down here (points at his feet). Fantastic coach and role model.

Agreed.
The second most gifted player I've seen in 54 years of watching us is Ndiaye.
It took me ages to get over selling TC, same with Illiman.

I went on one of those as well. Overheard his critique of me; "this one's decent but he just wants to muck about".

Which to be honest, was a thoroughly fair assessment.

I interviewed TC in 1973 for the student newspaper in the same week he played for England in the World Cup calamity against Poland so he was a bit subdued but still gave up his time and it was a big thrill for me at the start of a long career in journalism. Not very professionally, I got his autograph, and of course still have it.
