Weren't we credited with interest in Ellis Simms at the beginning of the window. Him plus cash perhaps?

It feels like a real crossroads.

After the mess of the last summer either it’s redemption time for the Board or just plod along.

You add Souttar to the current squad, get Hamer on a new deal and maybe sign BBD, as was all mentioned above by SUFC Guy and then push on offloading the likes of McGuinness, Norrington-Davies etc and you enter with optimism.

They show no intent to support the manager and we’ll be letting Hamer go, welcoming McGuinness back into the squad and inviting last minute offers for Seriki and Peck.

My Cov mates are cummimg in their pants at the prospect. If he goes, he goes. Just hope it's a decent fee. Probably good for him - might get a decent salary bump and a season of premier league football before they come back down. If it funds Souttar and an attacking left winger I'm reasonably happy.
I think for me, the frustration will be:

1. Their fans swarming us on social media, claiming to have got one over on us. But that will hopefully pass.

2. The likelihood that he will have more of an impact for us in this division than he would for them in that division.

3. Most importantly, I don't trust us to reinvest or recruit properly, at all.

What have you read into a photo of a Sheff Utd player in Sheff Utd kit that I havent?
Is there a quote from Gus or has this been done by telekenesis?
Good point. For this not on X, here's the comment from the Blade posting...1000076511.webp

I think we know what’s most likely

Another reason I think he agrees to the Cov deal, is that I don't think another Prem side comes in for him. I think this is the highest level offer he'll receive, which when coupled with the sentiment means it'll be the most compelling offer. That or a new deal with the Bleds.

If I was a Coventry fan I wouldn't be excited about signing Hamer for the much more physically demanding premier league tbh.

The radio Sheffield interview with one of the coaches yesterday was interesting. Talking about out plans this year.. pressing and running in behind front our forward players. None of which sounds like Hamer.

They're getting a technically improved player, since his time with us, but they sure as hell aren't getting a fitter or more disciplined player!

That plan sounds good to me...but who's gonna execute that? We have sod all athleticism 😆

Disagree

We have , for a start , Rothwell - ah , you see - your argument starting to dissolve - then we have Phillips (please god ) and of course backing all of this up - Jairo - not to mention the overlapping Maguiness and our Captain Tango

So , you see - nothing to worr….

…. Mmmm , see your point

I do think we hold some aces here.

I’m not aware that Coventry have particularly big backing.

So it’s mainly the tv money they will spend.

Finishing in first spot doesn’t always guarantee you’ll adapt to the division higher up better than those finishing below you. Sunderland a case in point.

Much like with youth football, you're sometimes better not being the best team collectively but having some individual stars.

In the case of youth football it’s those that then kick on to ‘make it’; it’s seldom the ‘team’ all come through. Man U’s class of 92 is a bit of an example.

In this case when you go up you can selectively upgrade those who are not the stars. It’s far harder or at least more expensive to upgrade the lot.

So Coventry in my view will not recruit beyond a certain pool. That pool has its limits. For that reason, Hamer will be coveted by them as one of the few with top level experience already who would come to them. Plenty more won’t go there and plenty more that would lack any more experience than their current players.

If he does show interest then I’d say scope to squeeze them is there if we hold firm. They will offer 5m. I’d tell them come back with the 15m we paid you and we’ll talk. Get a deal at the 10-12.5m level. He’ll be good for a 3-4 year deal for them, next year in the Championship. Yes he doesn’t have the premium of being 26 when he joined us, but he has some proven ability at the top level which he didn’t have before. So if he’s good enough to help their PL survival campaign he’s good enough to be rated at eight figures. Otherwise, are they simply saying they don’t rate him that highly? They just see him as a bargain bin deal? Can’t have it both ways.

Unfortunately it doesn't sound like any of our other players either apart from O'Hare (pressing) and Brooks (ah, crap).

Don't know enough about the loan lad myself but no it doesn't really. The hecky side had a great press. Unfortunately we sold/lost them all before going into the premier league

It's all words at this point.

You're right that our front line apart from COH and maybe Donovan/Matondo aren't exactly built for that but over the years I've often heard managers talk about their intended style and seen little evidence of it on a Saturday.

If we want to get the best out of Cannon then he needs support and a partner. Without that we may as well let him go imho.
