CONFIRMED Hamer joins Coventry

Nice to see so many fellow fans in denial about this, wouldn’t surprise me if he’s going back just to pay off the remaining money supposedly owed so he may.
 



If he stays it makes our transfer business simple - we won't need any more significant signings after Souttar and Phillips

If he leaves we'll have to sign at least one player to replace him. How much will they cost? Will they be a waste of money?

Keeping him and losing him for free really won't lose us that much money, effectively. Not with the level of fee in question

Keeping him might be worth about 6 league positions if he has a decent season. We can be a solid team who always carry a threat. Without him, we're undercooked offensively

Because we don't owe them any money.

He's got a source that says they're interested, he's then added the "they owe money" bit and has immediately got a call saying "no they fucking don't take it all down"
 
Didnt want him to leave in Summer 2024, was relieved we kept him. On Deadline Day I saw him playing golf at Hallowes with Oli Arblaster so I knew he was staying with us.

Thought he would definitely leave in Summer 2025, was relieved we kept him

This Summer I am not sure if we should offer him the contract he wants. Last season he made a lot of mistakes and got booked many times for doing something silly so I am ok with the idea of selling him rather than allow him to see out the remaining year of his contract.

Selling our best creative player to replace him with expensive, injury prone defensive players is about a damning statement as you can make about the current set up at the club.
 
If we can get close to what we paid for and have one or two replacements for him it could leave us in a better situation than him going on a free or staying 🤷‍♂️

There's no guarantee he will have a good season.
 
This would explain the dragging out announcing anything else. Looking to sell hamer before getting anything else over the line.

If Philips is the replacement we need to be very worried.

We will see if there has ever been any plan to replace hamer - if nobody else is lined up (when clearly it was a possibility that he would go) then that tells you everything you need to know about the nonsense being spouted months ago about already planning for the new season.
 
You have to worry for the promoted clubs…they need to buy proven premier league players. Not done too much business yet, have they?

1. We're unbalanced as a team with both Hamer and O'Hare being shoe-horned in
2. It doesn't seem to occur to CW that he could rotate them in the No.10 position, or he's been unable to recruit a proper left-winger hence needs must
3. Some of our best football last season was, if I remember correctly, when Hamer was injured
4. Hamer is always going to get suspended at some point
5. Hamer seems unable to last 90 minutes
6. O'Hare is almost always available and runs his socks off for 90+ minutes

I know about Hamer's creativity (though it tends to happen in "moments"), but if we can use the proceeds from his sale to buy a proper left-winger, I think we'd be a better team.

Hard disagree with those first two points.

Hamer and O'Hare are different players who don't play in the same position, and have different strengths.

Their link-up play has at often times over the past 2 seasons been part of our most promising attacking movements.

Think most of them have realised it’s not worth the risk to gamble and get relegated anyway, so go for solid signings with some resale.
 
Like most of us on here, I like Gus, he is that maverick type of player who can create something from nothing and pull something out of the bag, just when we need it.

However, like all of us, he isn't getting any younger, it sounds like he is not interested in a new contract and this might be his last crack at the Premier League (if the Coventry story is true).

So rather than having someone here who doesn't want to be (not saying he won't try, or down tools or anything) maybe best to get someone else in?

If we sign a dynamic midfielder that can last longer than 60 minutes, and isn’t missing for three games a season due to petulance, it’s a job well done.

If agree 👍 if we can come to an arrangement that suits both clubs and gives us options to replace with fresher hungrier fitter creative types then I’m all for it.

Yeh, 16 moments. 4 goals and 12 assists.

Is a proper left winger going to replicate that?
 



Like Ndiaye, he's one of those technically gifted and supremely talented players that can create something out of nothing. If we are to stand any chance of play-offs this season, losing Gus would be an almighty blow. He's by far and away our best player. Many on here don't think he was at his best last season, and yet he still had the most assists in the division. Yes, his petulance and carrying a bit more timber than he should irks some, but he wouldn't be here if he was ultra-disciplined. He's been a joy to watch over three seasons and I'd be gutted if we receive less than £10m.
