He’s PL level when he’s on it but he’s too hot headed, reckless and at times thoughtless to make him a consistent PL player, which is probably why he plays for us. Would have been in a top PL team 25 years ago but times have changed.

On his day he’s a special player who is head and shoulders above anyone else in the Championship. The flip side is petulant challenges resulting in needless bookings and daft flicks to nobody in particular when controlling the ball and keeping possession are the best option.

In that way, he’s similar to MGW when he was with us. Difference being MGW learnt and is now one of the best in the country in my opinion.
Is it just me, but he always looks a little to rotund?

Gets away with a ton on here because of his G/A stats. Has been poor for most of the season and was a joke in the last three. Has obvious quality which makes it more frustrating. Compare the attitude of him vis a vis Peck and it's chalk and cheese. Maybe he's carrying something besides the extra three stone?

8 goals and 6 assists. He's been carrying the team.

I'd pick Hamer at the base of midfield, get him on the ball a lot more and encourage him to get attacks going much quicker.

He'd hopefully be more difficult to pick up too

I'd give him a free role as a 10. That'd mean he doesn't have to chase back and that he's fresh and facing the opponent's goal when he picks it up. Anything that limits his running as the guy can't run and is a passenger besides his g/a. He could play at the head of a diamond at a push.

His ability should have him on 25+ G/A this season. People fawn over his current numbers like they're amazing

He's been poor to average in about 75% of games this season

His fitness and lifestyle choices are very questionable and to me he seems to coast along on his natural ability, doing just enough

He should have been a shoe in to get our POTS award at this level but he won't

He's not PL level and I don't see any big offers coming in for him, from anywhere

He is replaceable next season, in one way or another

You'd expect double figures for both at this level from a player with his ability in a team at the top of the league.
But he's done this for most of the season playing out of position on the left instead of in the number 8 central role. It's would be like Fergie swapping Paul Scholes for Ryan Giggs on the left wing then fans wondering why he's stopped scoring or creating chances. The numbers are pretty good given how poor we've played, the constant merry go round of players.ahead of him and alongside him and the piss poor attacking tactics that we play.

Being rotund didn't stop Diego Maradona.
Hamer's body size is the least of our worries at the moment.
It's not the size of the body that matters, it's what the size is composed of. Fat and muscle especially round the thighs can look much the same when the shorts fit everywhere they touch. I was in Row C and it's the closest I've been to Hamer. I was astonished at the bulk of his thighs in particular. If his thighs are all muscle, then that will restrict his athleticism in terms of speed and endurance. He'll also have to eat plenty to keep those muscles fed and they will need plenty of oxygen to keep going which itself takes a lot out of you when you're playing sports. Of they're not all muscle, well, summat needs sorting.

.... and yet despite all of this and his apparent rotundness, he's one of the few players who can play 90 minutes every week and is often box to box. Look at Campbell in comparison. His body shape is like a prime athlete and yet he can't last longer than 60-65 minutes.

So maybe body shape has nothing to do with it. I know obese people who regularly run 10k and skinny "fit" people who can't tun 400 metres.

Muscle and fitness are two totally different things.

By play 90 minutes you mean noticeably become less involved and drops further back after 60 minutes? He's hardly putting a shift in for 90 minutes. Unlike O'Hare who clearly runs himself into the ground.

Yep, he's also getting almost constant muscle issues. Not even bothering to track his runner as the game goes on. The best thing we can do with him (he's unfixable this season) is play him in a less physically demanding role and tell him to win us the game. He can be our Cantona. When the play offs are confirmed give him a rest period too. Same with Souza, Peck, Burrows, Seriki, Campbell etc. I don't want to see Souza again until he's 100%.

He’s also regularly seen out in Manchester.
Spot on Nick

He was also out in Dinnington actually during half time yesterday . He was seen in Aldi by my missis buying a Watney party can and a pack of cheese strings - that’s Hamer , not the missis

I saw him in Jack Fultons in Lower PiddlePoddle with a weeks supply of Pizza Pockets, 2 litres of Sunny D, half a dozen creme eggs and 20 Lambert and Butler...he was also wearing a onesie.

Yep I saw him having a chat with Mick Jones giving him some advice on whether to sign for Leeds this summer!

If you indulge in the nightlife of Sheffield regularly there's only one Blades players since the Adkins era you're more likely to see on a night out. The other one left early in Wilder's tenure.
Having said that, if they get two days off a week to do what they want he's probably doing nothing wrong. It's just when you see professional athletes with a paunch, blowing out of their ass after an hour, often prone holding their calves, it's bound to rub some people up the wrong way.
