SHEFFIELD United will face competition from Queens Park Rangers if they decide to pursue their interest in Peter Halmosi.
United, who are also believed to be monitoring the Hungarian's compatriot and Plymouth Argyle team mate Krisztian Timar, have been linked with a move for the international as they prepare to reshape their squad before the new Championship season.
But QPR, arguably the most cash rich club in the division, are known to be considering an offer for Halmosi.
Despite tracking Derby striker Robert Earnshaw, who is understood to be on the brink of completing a switch to Nottingham Forest, identifying new midfielders and defenders will be United manager Kevin Blackwell's top priority over the coming months.
He has privately expressed concerns that the squad he inherited from Bryan Robson in February is overloaded with attacking talent while other departments are dangerously short of personnel.
With a deal to purchase Ferencvaros due to be completed shortly, recruiting Timar, a rugged centre-half, and the creative Halmosi would have obvious benefits as the Blades look to exploit an ever-expanding porfolio of overseas partners which also includes Chengdu Blades, Central Coast Mariners, White Star Woluwe, Connection FC and Sao Paulo.
Timar is recovering from surgery on a fractured cheekbone and is likely to miss pre-season training: "I might be OK for the first game of next season," he said.
