In the late 60s I got a single seater bus from Worksop, and a kop ticket for 5 bob every other week, to watch Blades in the old first division. In 2013 I got a free ticket from my kids Gleadless school to watch England U-21s beat Scotland 6-0 at Bramall Lane. Sterling, Redmond, Barkley, Townsend et al

Twenty or so years ago, my older brothers lad went to every 3rd division away game on his own. We have, at various times been supporters and season ticket holders. It's a family thing.

The point is, the OP is correct. Whatever me and my family did back then, was pretty easy. I do not wish to undermine the marketing team, but they do need to adapt to modern circumstances and get their act together. It seems that the Liverpool game is a step i the right direction.

I think it might be something to do with this

In his 13 years in charge, Revie guided Leeds to two Football League First Division titles, one FA Cup, one League Cup, two Inter-Cities Fairs Cups, one Football League Second Division title and one Charity Shield. He also guided them to three more FA Cup Finals, two more FA Cup Semi-finals, one more Inter-Cities Fairs Cup Final and one Inter-Cities Fairs Cup Semi-final, one European Cup Winners' Cup Final and one European Cup Semi-final. The team also finished second in the Football League First Division five times, third once and fourth twice. In a survey of leading football writers, historians and academics by Total Sportmagazine, Revie's Leeds United were voted as one of the 50 greatest football teams of all time.[35]

The odious cunt Revie, assisted by Brown Bag Bremner, bribed other clubs. They were cheats, on and off the pitch. Their fans were and are arrogant, deluded and despicable individuals. Cloughie (an infinitely better Manager than Don Readies) told the truth about this particularly nasty club.

Dirty Corrupt Leeds.

I don’t disagree. My favourite quote about Revie is that ‘he’s not dead enough’.

They'd still be a PL club if it wasn't for Ridsdale.

You're absolutely right about that.

I always use Ridsdale as an example of a person who shouldn't be let anywhere near another football club, considering all those he's "advised" (one of the latest being the Notts County owner who ran them into the ground) and even his own consultancy went bust.

But nobody's all bad, we have a lot to thank Ridsdale for, and thank you for the reminder.
