Good morning all,

The Inter Blades took to the field for their first IFA League game on Saturday morning. Our opponents were Grimsby Old Skool over in Bradley, Grimsby.

For the first half we attacked reasonably well but couldn't get the ball over the line. Paul Kemp hit the bar and a few other good chances went begging but we weren't really knocking the ball around fast enough. A few times we tried to over play in our own half, taking extra touches and wanting too much time on the ball. We nearly got caught out a few times due to this, but eventually we sorted this out. After about 30 mins James Kemp broke free down the right channel and squared for brother Paul Kemp to finish into an empty goal. This finally put us 1 up but we should really have done a lot better.

At half time we talked about passing the ball around quicker and to everybody’s credit, this is exactly what happened. We were particularly impressive at switching play from side to side at the back and then quickly getting it down the line and into the channels. Immediately after half time James Kemp got free down the right and crossed to the back post but Luke Jackson couldn't quite head home. However, it was the start of 30 mins of good quick football where we scored 4 good goals. First James Kemp got free down the right channel and lobbed the onrushing keeper. Then another attack down the right saw the ball end up at Luke’s feet in the box, he passed back for Drew Brown to finish from the edge of the area. Next James Kemp got clean through yet again, this time rounding the keeper before finishing into an empty net. Finally, James Kemp completed his hat trick after being put through by Chris Beckett and firing past the keeper.

About 15 minutes from the end a few changes were made and we had 5 mins of madness where we were lucky not to concede. A bit of fine tuning saw us restore order, then centre back Chris Hughes, now playing as a defensive midfielder, got his name on the score sheet with a goal from a corner… a penalty spot header that nutmegged the keeper!

Overall an ok first half and a good 2nd half performance that we should use as the benchmark for future games.

Well done boys, 6 goals and a clean sheet, can't ask for much more than that... apart from a repeat performance on Saturday against Forever Bury 'A'!

cheers,
