Almost inspiring me to a "three worst scorers in one match" thread but you've probably killed that one right here.

He only managed 7 goals and you may be thinking of the one he got v Ipswich at the Lane end on 26/3/88.
I didn't get to many games before the Bassett era so I can well believe it was this one, and yes it was at the Lane end. Cheers![]()
Wow, another good call.
Brings Tom Heffernan's barnstormer v Orient into play. Mark Dempsey once scored a curling free kick in Edwardsesque style but I can't remember the opponents.
That was from a very acute angle from the right and it was from outside the box too. It did seem the ball was going out of the byline not far from the corner flag so he slid in as if he tried to keep the ball in play and I am not sure if he was attempting to cross low or shooting low. Brighton's keeper, Eric Steele, seemed to think that it wasnt worth narrowing the angle and dived too late to stop the ball go into the netRight, seeing as my memory is fading badly and not referring to tinter web - I think I remember a great goal from a 70,s right back on a Tuesday night at the Lane kicking towards the Kop against Brighton to secure a 2-0 victory. Step forward John Cutbush !
Please Darren tell me I'm at least close ....
Mike Lake at Southampton on 11/1/92.
Lake was generally shit, but for some strange reason started playing like Zico in Jan/Feb 92 (hence his nickname). He managed 5 goals, most of which were good, but the favourite has to be that dipping 35 yard shot at The Dell. This time, I said "don;'t waste it" as I saw him shaping up to shoot and end what looked a promising attack...
Aye I remember that, he was a winger bald as a coot and about 4ft tall. Looked like a garden gnome.bill punton
any winner v pigs is great
played 16 games 1 goal
3-0 v Burnley in March 2002. Gazza was awful for Burnley that dayWhat about the 2 he scored v Fulham in the cup replay ?
back to wonder strikes I remember D'Jaffo banging in a 25 yarder off the crossbar at the kop end ......... he looked more surprised than we did LOL
In my mind, it involved a 1-2 on the edge of the box with Peter Withe (I think!)..regardless, it was a fabulous goalFunny how the mind plays tricks. I remember him getting the ball wide on the right, cutting inside and beating 3 or 4 players before drilling into the corner.

Was at that match. Cold, cold day, Scummers two one up at half time (with Shearer and Le Bellend in their squad) and Lakey latches onto a shot out on the left and he puts his foot right through it. Not only did it swerve, it had Flowers sprawling. The shot would have hit me in the dish had it not hit the old onion bag, Greavsey.
Best thing was the ten minute 'Let's all have a disco' near the end at 2-4.
A quality day, to be a Blade.

Yes, Wigley picked up the ball just inside their half, and beat 5 or 6 players to score - I think he even went round the keeper.
Morris' goal in that game was very good as well - a lob from out on the right wing.
Another candidate - Adrian Littlejohn's winner against Liverpool early in 1992-3. That was a great strike, and not something he did a lot of.
34 posts and nobody has mentioned Christian Nade making one of the world's best defenders look like a pub player with a piece of skill and turn of pace he'd never displayed before or since.
In actual fact Littlejohn had a great season in 92-93 and scored 8 PL goals, many of them good ones (his lobs at Arsenal and Coventry spring to mind).
A fair point - the lob at Coventry was a great finish. His goal at Chelsea was good as well.
Having said all that, when I think of Adie scoring only one goal comes to mind - the one he got against the Pigs from about 3 inches with his back to goal.

A joyous moment indeed. To be honest if I were to recall one goal from little Ade it would be the "other goal" in the 4-2 win at Burnley in the FA Cup. Absolute brilliant move and finish and celebrated by running the length of the pitch firing imaginary bullets at the BNP element (i.e. all of Burnley basically) housed on the side there.
I read about that. I think the racist ones are from DronfieldThat's whole new thread of "last time you saw explicit racism at a game".
Mine was the game at Southend on 1/10/96. A black Southend player went down injured just in front of the United fans and got a load of racist abuse. To his credit one fan stood up and faced the crowd and harangued them to the effect that the player was obviously a bastard but it was not on to call him a "black bastard". He got a round of applause.
Even that was a rather neat back heel!
Fun fact, LJ is our second top PL scorer with 11 goals.
Flo and Whitehouse tied for 3rd with 10?
Flo got 9.
Off the top of my head.
1. Deane 15 (if you count the alleged OG v Leeds)
2. LJ 11
3. Whitehouse 10
4. Flo 9
5. Hulse 8
