Duffs 2 v Portsmouth were on Halloween night 89, Portsmouth were their usual shithousing mode and had taken the lead.
A player you'd thought wouldn't be that good but did well was Cotterill, never looked confident but passed them straight into the corner just out of the keepers reach.

Apart from the one he ballooned over the bar on his debut :)

Going back to TK, I'm going to attempt a 'Silent' and can vaguely remember a real pressure penalty he took, I think, away at Tranmere in the 4th Division promotion season run-in. If memory serves, he'd missed his last 1, v Mansfield ???, and we were 2-1 down with minutes left, he put it away and we picked up a valuable away point. Over to people with better memories than me (or stats :) )
Especially because Tranmere went down the other end and got a last gasp pen of their own. Waugh saved it, a Tranmere player followed through on him, got sent off, then their fans came on to the pitch and we're chased off by Blades. Eventful days

He got one away at Scunthorpe when they played at the old show ground ! Right foot into top corner. I remember cos me and my mate were there and he detested Allan Clarke who was their manager at the time

yes, he also got one against Hull in 1985-6, completing his Hattrick, after Morris had been subbed off. Morris missed the Scunthorpe game due to injury.

Duffield’s the best I’ve seen. 7 out of 7 and never in doubt. Michael Brown was also 7 out of 7 in the League but missed in the playoffs of course.

Colin Morris holds the following penalty records for the Blades:

Most taken overall: 54
most taken in league: 47
most scored overall 42
Most scored in league 35
Most missed overall and in league (both 12 - he scored 7 out of 7 in Cups)

of players who took more than 10, Tony Kenworthy has the best scoring percentage - 17/19 in the league, 20/22 overall.

OK Duff was good, but TK`s record, for the number taken, is exceptional.

Forgot that bit 😁

Have a like for mentioning the wonderful Woody, but he did miss one:

Missed 4 times. The other three were v Man City (Ken Mulhearn) in January 1968, v Coventry (Bill Glazier) in November 1971 and v West Ham (Bobby Ferguson-twice taken) in March 1973

Any spring to mind? Saw a thread on twitter.

I’d have James Beattie and Nick Blackman from recent times. Always remember Dane Whitehouse being decent from the spot and John Pemberton?
Woodward, Kenworthy, Blackman, Beattie, Simmonsen...

no scrub that!

let me have another go? 🤔

Simmo occurred to me so I thought I best check back to make sure wag hadn't got in there already ....grrrr ...

OK then ..... Wayne Quinn..... shins really did take a week or two to heal .

Keith Eddy was very good. Remember when he stepped up to take his first pen. Everyone expected Woody to take it and he was booed. Still scored.

That was in the 2-2 home draw against Spurs in January 1974. Woody was the leading marksman in the first division at the time. Everyone were expecting Woody to add another goal to his impressive tally but were shocked to see Eddy step up to take the penalty. After the match Eddy said he felt "narked" by the booing.

7 out of 7. They were all put in the same spot too - low to the keeper's right. Including two in one game (vs Portsmouth, I think).
That was a terrible game and from memory both Francis and bradders dived blatantly. We created nothing all night and Portsmouth were even more physical than us.
I can’t write about duffield without mentioning his bravery in scoring the winner at Swindon a few games later and breaking his leg in the process. I think his next game was as striker away at villa the next season?
