Got out of jail tonight

Decent workmanline performance overall but not great. We allowed Reading some real chances that a better team would have tucked away. Lack of creativity in midfield shows how important Fleck and Norwood are. Positives include a first goal for Didsy, another for Billy, and we escaped without injuries as far as I can tell. Great we are in the FA Cup quarter finals but play like that and we lose to a more clinical team like Norwich. Overall happy tonight though, we won and move on. We've been below par in the league before and come back with a strong performance, but I hoped we'd struggle less against Reading

I watched the whole match....we were underpar but we were clearly the better team....all the statistics back up our superiority.
Reading sat back defending and made it tough..we really struggle to break down teams that have numbers back in defence
the only way they were going to score was with a dodgy penalty.....however I do agree that we were far from convincing
and a better team would have punished us......but the fact is we were playing an average Championship team so they are always going to lack quality.

I’m not sure I understand all the criticism. Reading were restricted to a few pot shots and realistically did not look like scoring.
We played patient football expecting the breakthrough to come. Considering they parked 10, and at times, 12 players behind the ball. The team stuck to the plan and were calm. That was impressive.

There was a lot to be positive about and whilst Mousset was poor, he was getting in some good positions. The difference was he was golden at the beginning of the year, this time his shooting was poor. I’m not wearing rose tinted glasses, just not expecting to see us play like Barcelona.
Although it would be nice to see us play like Barcelona when we beat Arsenal at home in the quarter finals.

Nice when we can be critical about a 15 game run where we have only lost to Liverpool and man city won 9 and drawn 3. Yet we are looking jaded
Be good then when we click

Saw man city have 80 per cent of game at Hillsboro and only score one due to a limp twisted half save. . Beating these shit championship clubs is no walk in the park

A measure of how far we have come under CWAK.
You are right, we as fans can be over critical, but for me the result overrides the performance.

Spot on....OK we weren't great v Reading but City struggled to break down the Bacon wall last night and Leicester the same v Birmingham.....Barcodes let a 3 goal lead slip and scraped through v West Brom and Arsenal didn't exactly batter League 1 Pompey.

Manure will probably not have it easy v Derby tonight either.

Everyone relax...

I’m convinced that Freezy can play the no10 role and be the new Duffy. Gawd knows the right hand side of our midfield has been underwhelming for several games now. Perhaps we should revert back to last season’s formation. It could help to give us back the attacking fluency we need In the important, upcoming games.

My concern with reverting to using a No 10 would be the possible negative impact it may have on Flecky's game.

The flat 3 has given him licence to get forward much which has seen him get his highest goals tally and be much more influential for us.

If we could continue to get the same from Fleck then I'd love to see Freeman in the No 10 role.

We got out of jail to an extent, but we dominated posession - particularly first half. And - how many times to PL teams put in a poorer peformance in the FA Cup but snatch a win - because of an extra bit of quality (the move for Sharp's goal)? We used to be on the receiving end of that (now it's our turn to do that to Champ teams)! :)

Exactly! And why not, especially at home? We are safe now, all manner of teams are rocking up to the Lane setup to defend. The no 10 is pivotal to breaking down stubborn defences without resorting to the direct style of football we've been seeing the last half dozen games. Let's throw some caution to the wind because we have nothing to lose.

I’m not so sure Fleck and Norwood would’ve improved our performance tonight, let’s not forget they were piss poor in a midfield 3 in the championship and we only improved when Duffy returned to the starting line up.

The flat 3 doesn’t work for us against teams which are going to defend, but in the Premier League teams haven’t come to defend so therefore the flat 3 works.

Horses for courses and Wilder has got to work out which system is most suited to each opposition.
Did Brighton come to defend?

Agree we weren't great, but struggling to recall these chances other than a few pot shots. Their players a more akin to freestyle footballers than professionals. That twat doing the step overs in the corner at 1-1 deserved a right kicking. So glad Billy put the diving, show pony, plastic twats in their place.
We made heavy going of beating a poor Championship side.
