Bolton hadn't won an away game when they came last year and we know how that ended !!

Surprised to read this so much on the forum - I watched the game with 2 neutrals who thought it was a really good game of football, a proper gritty derby match.

Then again, Coventry is the nearest league side to us, so the locals are somewhat starved of football of any sort really.

I think I actually posted that before the games. And said I’d rather we got the three points from West Brom and a point from the pigs than the other way round.

I really don't know how any Blade can be happy with that result. If we want to consider ourselves an auto-promotion team then we have to expect three points from matches like these. An away point is good against a promotion rival, but not against a mid-table struggler. It's better than a defeat, obviously, but it's only because it's them that we are content with not losing.

7.45 pm we kicked off and immediately launched it towards Madines head, I just sighed because I just knew what was coming, and I might as well have turned the TV off immediately.
We then continued with it for over an hour until it was obvious it wasn't working

This is not us. Why would we play a game of football in a completely opposite way to what we normally would ?

Would we play that style if we were playing Ipswich or Brentford or Wigan away ?

I totally agree. My biggest worry with Madine is that he will change the entire way we play. The "plan B" boys will be thrilled, but hoofing it in to the big man up front is not a positive development, as far as I'm concerned. He's great to have at corners and free kicks, mixing it up in the box, but fluid passing moves break down simply because his presence encourages the long ball. I don't know whether that's a deliberate plan from Wilder or whether players just can't resist it, but I hope it doesn't cost us overall.

I disagree. Wednesday are on the same points as Preston and Villa. If we had come away from those two games with a draw in similar circumstances, I think most would say it was a good point.

I actually think there are a few who have let the fact it's Wednesday cloud their judgement the other way into thinking we should have steamrolled them. They are unbeaten in 8 games whilst West Brom, Leeds and Bristol City have all failed to beat them this season.

The fact we have been laughing at them is less to do with their team and more to do with the ridiculous expectations their fans have. People seem to think they are a total joke and we should brush them aside but they are an experienced Championship side who have quite clearly under achieved. Their results against the better clubs show that when they raise their game they can stifle decent teams. Their problem is when the onus is on them to attack.

Leeds lost at QPR a week ago and Norwich lost at Preston so we made an extra point up in reality as they had the home games we now have coming up

The fact that we're even debating this is testament to how far we've come.

We've gone into the last 2 derby games almost expecting a win.
We smashed league 1 with a 100 points.
We finished upper-mid table in our first season back in the championship and were now genuinely contesting for automatic promotion at the business end of the season.
All while generally playing fantastic football.

Can you imagine trying to explain that to yourself past self during the defeat to Scunthorpe under Adkins on the last day of the season?

You're not allowed to be grateful for how far we've come, it's all about the points we've missed out on.

I agree. Wilder was more worried about losing than getting the 3 points. Another interesting team selection. Hope that's the end of hoofball for a long while.

I didn't mention Wednesday in my post at all. I don't think we should have beaten them because we have been laughing at their absurd opinions, I think we should have beaten them because they are mid-table strugglers - that's if we want to consider ourselves for the automatic spots. I would not have considered it a good point if it had been away at Preston or Villa, it would have been ok, it would have been better than a loss. I wouldn't have been happy with it because being happy with that sort of result would be, in my opinion, to be looking at securing a play-off spot, not securing an auto spot. Their unbeaten run is deceptive, it's been against poor teams with close results. These teams have to be put away, it's fortunate for us that there aren't any run away teams this season, but it will also be a crying shame if we don't take advantage of it. We've got to start believing we are good enough to take 3 points.
