Decent players we've had over time who were/are good players but the fans always berate(d) for being toss.

All players I have listed there are players that I think fans have slagged off because they

A) need a scapegoat
B) aren't football-minded enough to realise that they're good players

Come on then who is the best player to have been given the raw deal

I went for Cotterill. Could be relied upon to produce two potentially match winning moments per game but was disliked because he didn't hang around the back four "putting the effort in".

Some on that list genuinely are shite though.

While I respect your poll matt. I find it incredibly disrespectful to label other Blades as, 'Thick!' because they have an opinion on players they don't rate. :)

Well I can only see one good player in that list (Britton)

I would agree with Quinn, and include:

Darius Henderson - wasn't a big fan myself, but always had a decent record
Mark Bunn - definitely. Got way more shit than he deserved. Still rate him as a keeper.
Kev McDonald - been debated enough

But let's face it, there are many!

Ok point taken. I will get foxy to change the title.

I.e. Montgomery - played under 6 (I think) managers and was pretty much starting consistently for all of those guys.
Doyle - been captain under 2 different managers.

Clearly the managers of Sufc are more qualified than me, you and pretty much all other fans that pay money to watch the game.

Foxy - could you please change the title of my thread to something more suitable.

Seeing Leon Britton up there reminds me of something along the same lines, but a slightly different tack. Players whom we signed with big reputations/potential who never showed it in a Blades shirt. Brian Marwood springs to mind, and from the 70s and 80s two who came with big reps but never ever did it were Peter Dornan and Peter Heatherston.

Know what you mean. Leon Britton would fit in perfectly with our style of play now. Blackwell just bypassed the midfield with long balls and made Harper, Britton & Howard look toss

Harper - past it
Howard - never had it
Britton - Blackwelled

The only one on that list of under achievers that I would want in the team now is Leon Britton. The rest are just mediocre to clearly not good enough and I'd put Cotterill at one end of that scale and Porter at the other.

Although, I'll readily accept that means, I'm probably as thick as shit.

Either that or the 6 managers that let Montgomery play >350 games are ;)

13th in the all time appearance table. He must've been awful for us

He was. A shadow chasing ragamuffin of a non-.footballer. Any decent opposition midfielders treated him as a training cone. He was/is utter rhubarb.

Yours.

It would also help if there were some decent players to choose from

I've gone for Cotts as I always thought he got the shit end of the stick under Blackwell. Like so many players who've left the Lane under a cloud, he 's gone on to better things, getting a promotion under his belt at Donny and having a stormer of a season for them last year.

Kind regards
Thick Fucker, South East London ;)

Other: Andy Gray. Consistent scorer of goals, did what a striker should. Slated unmercifully by some Blades for reasons I cannot imagine.

Yet most supporters considered Kevin McDonald the best thing since sliced bread.....I must have missed all of his goals and assists.

I'd go with that as well. Unless the game in question is a playoff final.

Ifill
Last Utd winger to get 10+ goals in a season+many assists+reasonable set piece skills, instrumental in getting us promoted.
Many Utd fans didn't like him because he was 'nesh'.
Thick
PS Utd haven't had a decent permanent centre back since Craig Short that season either

Stephen Quinn, great, committed player who used to get barracked continually by the dick who sat behind me and his parrot of son. What would we give for a squinny right now.

He went on record that Hoofit managers Blackwell and Adams had both set back his career.

He went on record that Hoofit managers Blackwell and Adams had both set back his career.

When he first came into the team he was all short passes and neat football. A fair share of mistakes were included in these performances, but then when Stuart McCall was running our midfield he gave the ball away at times too.

Point being, it's a culture of fear and lack of trust in talent that turned Quinn into a hot potato merchant for a few years.

Let's not go down the route again.

Got ro be Cotterill. So many blades fans go on about wanting a winger with pace, who can beat a man, chip in with goals, deliver a good cross and take a man on. He was all these things but was branded a bottling shiteater by many. The best winger we've had in years.

I go and watch dull city occasionally (free tickets to my local team) and he looks a good player in a reasonable side. Also seen him at the lane when City aren't playing, so still has a blades

I support anyone not called James Harper who wears a blades shirt!
