Good new video on redevelopment of Bramall Lane.

Even if the stadium was modernised, and the end result was exactly like that in the video, there is no way Sheffield "the original home of football" will ever host a World Cup or Euro game again.

12 stadiums are usually used
Wembley, Spurs, Arsenal, West Ham, Chelsea, Villa, Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Newcastle, Leeds, Sunderland.

And if it's not those 12, Everton, Southampton, Leicester, Derby, MK Dons and Coventry would all be in front of Sheffield
Wouldn’t be too sure on Manures ground
They don’t get European games ( finals )
As there grounds not up to standard
Although with a different governing body it may be different

Be great to see but more chance of Putin turning up bareback riding on the front line in Kiev.

We sold out of ST's in the first PL season but that was to be expected. The addition of better corporate facilities would be good.

If the ground was full every week then I'd understand it, but if we stay down next season we'll be back to 25k attendances again.
Yeah agree on next season. Would expect the same also.

It’s always a difficult one to balance. If we are flying and it’s sold out every week, we’d have to reduce the capacity to facilitate the work (probably less so on the south stand). So, you do have to pre-empt it to a degree.

I would sooner us get the training ground and academy sorted tbh.

Sadly don't think I'll live to see it, utd in my lifetime have never had any money and I can't imagine it altering any time soon.

Wolves did Molineux up not that long ago but then they've got rich investors and have gone up and stayed up largely because of that. Until we stumble upon someone who's got the money to do the same, we'll be yo-yoers at best.

How is it ludicrous? I don't think we sold out more than a handful of games in the PL when we were flying the other season.

Anyone who thinks we'd suddenly have 35k-40k fans in the ground on a regular basis if we built the capacity needs their bumps feeling.
Because the seats that weren't sold were restricted view, single seats or in the away end. Added to that we'd the at the time brand new, stupid restriction not allowing sales to new supporters. Almost every game was effectively sold out. If our ground held 40k, with no restricted views and we let in people that didnt have 500 loyalty points, we'd 100% have pulled in over 37 most games in PL.

Fair enough, your opinion. I disagree.

We’d maybe get 35k for the odd game but it’s delusional to say we’d 100% get 37k most games.

I don’t particularly want a bigger ground, but I think the club owe it to the fans to build a better ground. The Kop is quickly becoming the most antiquated stand in the top two divisions, and amazingly it was only build in 1990. The pillars, the rake of the seats, the poor sight lines in the wings, and the awful the outdoor concourse, ensure that our biggest capacity stand is an embarrassment to the oldest and best stadium in the world.

Haven’t we sold out season tickets for the last two seasons fans have been there? There’s also the addition of more commercial facilities, in particular executive boxes, which again, I think are all sold out.

I do take your point though, wouldn’t want us to go for the full expansion in one go. It should be incremental to reduce the chances of the ground being empty and matching the on field fortunes.

The most sensible approach would be to do the south stand first. Then expand the Kop once an established Premier League outfit.

I’d also think these plans would be revisited anyway as there about 13 years old now. May well be better solutions.

That said, this is all arbitrary as we seem to be short of a few quid.
Let's see what Princey wants to charge for next season.... see what he thinks of our loyal fans 🤔

That’s not going to happen though, it’s like saying if Man U were a midtable championship club they’d only get 25k every week.
It’s not really that far fetched to say we could be competitive in the Premier League. By that I mean expected top half and genuine challengers for the cups. There’s similar sized clubs doing it now, absolutely no reason why we couldn’t be one of them.

Some of our fans are the absolute polar opposite of the pigs, their belief they could compete not just top half of the Prem but trouble the top six every season is unshakeable (and the latter deluded)

We on the other hand seem to to accept our fate as a mid table 2nd tier club. I sometimes wish our fans had a bit of their belief in what the club could achieve.

A reasonable realistic capacity for us would be 37k and we are well capable of getting those sort of crowds with a bit of relative success.

We can grow as a club, just the same as Wolves, Leicester, Palace, Burnley and so on.

I agree that if we achieved the same kind of stature as a club that we’d achieve these kinds of numbers.

What I don’t agree on is that we’ll ever be able to compete with these kinds of teams (Burnley aside as they’re living on borrowed time and rely on Dyche). I know it’s a cliche and people don’t like to hear it but it’s the ‘Blades way’.

You're probably right, but the only way we'd ever go through with a development on that scale would be if we were competive in the PL and the relevant foundations were in place. So it felt worth saying given the context of the thread..

Yes its sad ... once again a crap owner! Lets see what fallout is coming re Saudi, Russian owners .... didn't we do well?! 😡

World Cup now has a requirement of 40k publicly available seats (ie tickets which can be sold so excluding media, restricted view etc)

That rules out Chelsea and Leeds from your main list and all of the back-up list also fall short at this moment. Leicester are expanding and Everton's new stadium is getting closer but none of the others have plans. I think Brighton could be added to the list who might be interested but currently don't make the grade.

Of course, this doesn't rule us in either but many clubs would only increase their capacity with some sort of guarantee...which they wouldn't get.

Bear in mind the WC expands to 48 teams from 2026, and therefore it'll use 16 grounds per tournament. Who knows... we'd have to go up...we'd have to stay up... we'd have to have spare money to get the ground on the potential list.

Euros is a bit more relaxed, I don't think there is an official minimum but with a smaller tournament it would be more competitive. WC definitely more likely than Euros.

We're averaging 27.5k in the championship. That's a ludicrous post. Clubs that fail to plan for a successful future will never know long term success.
Agree Forest rarely ever average above 25K and are currently averaging 26.5K

However even with a fan base similar or lower than ours they have plans to expand their ground to 38K, think they were due to start building at the start of this season but covid caused a temporary suspension .

Surely the demise of Notts County is a factor helping expand their fan base. They used to be a 2 club city, so kids growing up in Nottingham had a choice regards which team to support.

These days surely most of the school kids in Nottingham have a strong pull towards Forest instead of County who having spent so long in the non league are now a bit of a joke club.

When that corner between John Street and the Kop was added around 20 years ago, wasn’t the long term plan to expand / elevate the Kop? To elevate the Kop onto the same level as that corner if that makes sense. That would thereby make the Kop a lot steeper / add a lot more seats etc.

It’s not really about bringing tournaments to the Lane though.

Just us having a reasonable stadium that reflects the potential size of the club. One that will attract not just fans, but players as well.

If it’s gonna be done do it properly. We have a lot of space. Elevation and movement on both John st forward and Kop and south stand backward. Why have a car park?
Can’t afford it but don’t half arse it.
But ONE THING IS ESSENTIAL NO PIG GROUND SHARING. Rather play in Millhouses park. Nice vid tho

But then it goes from 40m to 400m

I think we are at 'Peak Blade' for ordinary matches. A 35K stadium would suit us for years and be useful to give the whole of the Bramall Lane end to well supported clubs in bigger games. So I think adding 3k seats in a revamped Kop would do us just fine. Nice if it was kept as mainly a 4 sided ground rather than one of those shitty bowls like at Derby and Coventry.....

Not so long ago ‘Peak Blade’ was about 19-20,000. Fanbases can and do grow, we’ve already proved it.

It looks good but as an old cynical guy I think it is like the idea of a fast train to Leeds or Manchester, electrifying the London line or a new road across the Pennines or even a tunnel. Great ideas but talked about for years and not happened yet and not sure any will happen in my lifetime? I mean if we can't even get a training pitch or other facilities that cuts the mustard we have no chance. I truly hope I am wrong.

Things have moved on, or at least they have elsewhere
The cities are chosen first, then the stadium work is considered

An insular city with zero infrastructure to move perhaps a hundred thousand or more people in and out, no airport, no motorway, poor rail connections, poor choice of quality hotels, restaurants, bars or cultural places of interest won't even be considered, no matter how good the stadium was.

Qatar says hello

Once again this season we see the need for a larger ground. Current average 31218.
