I've had bigger stuff out of Graves Park middle pond

pommpey
Tried fishing there years ago, but only managed to catch the silvers while the elusive carp stayed disinterested in the middle.
Usually went to Crookes Valley Park, loads of fish in there.

As a lad we used to fish in the boating lake getting there about 3 in the morning and being chased off by the parky at about 7. Those were the days.

We used to catch Roach sorry that would be Barry Roche!

I fished the boaty about 40 years ago. Some cracking roach and perch in there.

Sticklebacks a plenty from the wall end of the middle pond. Carp out in the middle giving the fishermen the big old middle finger.

I'd clean the place out now, mind.

True!
When I was a kid I used to go fishing in the River Sheaf at Heeley Bridge (start of Chesterfield Rd). Believe it not, I used to catch guppies...I think they were probably discarded pets, but they seemed to thrive in the warm water outlets from the factories, which used the water for industrial cooling. True story.
