I find this interesting. Could I ask why you'd prefer Doyle?
Personally I'm not sure of the risk with Doyle, and I'm more confident of what we'd get with COG.
Of course I'd have much rather we'd got Wilson this time last year.

Just my opinion, Bob. Almost all transfers are a gamble but I think COG has reached the apogee of his career - he's hardly likely to reach new heights at his age. ED, on the other hand could be like Nahki Wells. His development has probably been limited by the players around him.

More potential in years to come.

Thanks for the reply, but it's worth noting there's only a year between them. If Doyle was 22-23 I would tend to agree but as he hasn't shown it previously I think he is significantly more of a risk.

The other great thing in adding quality to the squad is that every single outfield player has to play to their maximum in every game. There are no guaranteed places, none can afford any complacency.

And hopefully no more slow starts and keeping it at 0-0. I'm expecting us to take the lead more often, earlier.

A couple actually (COG d.o.b. 25/1/86, ED d.o.b. 2/3/88) but I get your drift - I thought COG was much older. Probably academic as COG is currently playing for BHA against Arsenal?

(Update. Just scored! ED it is, then! ;))

COG - Games played 358. Goals scored 83 Games/goals 4.31
ED - Games played* 233. Goals scored 75 Games/goals 3.11

* including 109 against Irish league teams

With the development team getting a comeback draw at PNE, the three signings this week and Jim Phipp's talk this has been one of the best Blades days of my 59 yrs existence.

I honestly feel that history will show 24th January 2015 to be a significant day in the life of the Blades.

59? 59? Bugger, I've 'only' got 53! But here's the thing (can tell Top Gear returned last night :)), even us old buggers get mighty pissed off when results go badly. It still has the power to totally ruin my weekend, even now.

It doesn't make us 'clappers' or 'slashers'.

Perhaps a striker becomes less of an issue if the existing players are putting the ball in the right areas for what we already have. It's more a lack of creativity seems to be the problem than someone to get on the end.

FWIW I do want a striker but I'm not sure it's the be all and end all some others seem to feel.
