Going up.... The obsession...

I'd point at the position we are at today in the table and say 'show your working out'. We are no better off this season than last, with seemingly better players.

So how does changing the manager better things, exactly? You say we have bought those players - has it improved our situation over when we were under Clough?

How?

Just add to my last post, apart from the players Adkins has signed, along with Baxter and Cuvelier, Clough signed or re signed the rest of our squad. So changing the manager has made things better as he has identified that the majority of the squad isn't good enough!!!

Who'd be a Director at Sheffield United FC, eh?
Me, tomorrow. I'd dedicate my life to it rather than seeing it as some sort of gap-year opportunity whilst shuffling between the various borads of the owners various companies.

Yes. I'd say 'more money'. I'd say consistently more money spent on better players to support the few decent players we are left with. Face it, who would you hang onto at the moment if ten million was put your way? That sounds ridiculous, I know. But it is that kind of investment which is needed to simply propel us upwards into a secure playoff spot and keep us there and have any chance of success in the three matches to follow. Another ten to ensure we at least don't become the whipping boys of the Championship. And subsequent augmentation to retain our position of challengers to the title in that division. McCabe won't give us that, I know.

We'll see, when he's sacked, WWF. Stranger things have happened, y'know.

Money doesn't solve a thing if the set-up isn't right. I'm sure KM has said to himself "just another £10m should do it" at every instalment of his losses. No good if you don't get the right manager for the right situation.

IMO the Board just have to pick the right manager, give him the budget and go with him. All the best Boards don't have all the money - they pick the right managers.

I think Clough knew that by about November 2014, that's why he talked the Board into big spending in the 2015 JTW.

Face it - which player would like to drop a division or two (even on loan) and play amongst lesser able players, and be roundly chided week in and week out by the supporters?

Adam Armstrong on a season-long loan from Newcastle to Coventry? 16 goals in 23 appearances. And 'chided by the supporters'? Not if it's the right guy(s). Coventry fans - in the Coventry Telegraph - are saying 'Get the champage in. Coventry are going up.'

It's the same old nonsense that gets posted every other month. We signed 15 players last season on permanent deals. I suspect that's far more than any club in the division. Our wage bill will be far more than most of the division and certainly bigger than the current top two by some way. We've had huge resources invested comparatively with most of the other L1 teams and the "transfer committee" of Nige, Simon and Mal got it wrong. That's why we are where we are.

Too true. To use the Coventry analogy, their team is choc-full of youth and experience. Players like Tudgay, Ricketts, Jacob Murphy (9 goals so far), Vincelot, Fortune, Ramage, Stephen Hunt and the aforementioned Armstrong.
The guys in charge of scouting/recruitment at United aren't 'fit for purpose' and NA doesn't help with his old pal's act and players who are here simply for their last big payday.
