New football season, new soccer am (alright, it's shite now... But it's better than nowt!)... A whole summer of no football followed by that first day optimism, excitement, gambling... It just doesn't get any better than this!

3 points & a few goals by 5pm & I'll be one very happy blade.

LETS AVE IT!!

I fell into the trap of getting excited about Soccer Am again, needless to say I kept it on 10min before I remembered how bad it is now.
It's still nice to "set the mood though".
Don't forget everyone, Billy sharps hat trick will be on the football league show at 9 tonight on channel 5 not BBC 1

I couldn't sleep and have had increasing butterflies in the stomach all day. A day which is dragging, I'm sure the clock is going backwards. COYRAWW!

I could probably wait a few more weeks really, not that fussed just yet. Season always seems to start to early. If it wasn't for the Chez Vegas game next week I probably wouldn't be even moderately interested yet.

Weird aint it?
Life is so boring without football.
Although the cricket helps a bit when Yorkshire are doing well.

I must admit despite the fact that I'm optimistic about our chances this season I seem to have lost a lot of interest in football. 4 years ago wild horses wouldn't have kept me from going today (and every game this season) but 2 kids later and a lot of growing up and I've become completely disillusioned with the game at the professional level.

I'll still be checking the score and always hope we win but I think until my boy is old enough to go my time at the lane will be limited.

There's not much better than taking your boy to watch football, and watching his enthusiasm for the Blades grow. HMB Jnr is nearly 15 and the two of us are like a pair of kids (I know, I know) with our season tickets and squabbling over the new home shirt.

I'm really hoping that it will re-ignite my interest in football. I literally lived and breathed football for 23 years from the first time at the lane as a 4 year old and through the amateur and semi professional game more recently as well. The last 2 or 3 years it's taken a backseat.

I don't subscribe to the "bigger blade" malarkey as I've been there and done the miles and I don't see myself as any less of a blade for putting family first, I just see it as a stage of life that I'm in at the moment.

One thing I will say is that I sympathise with 50+ year olds who have seen the game morph into a sport where players with low/average ability are able to pull in £250k per annum whilst In the real world to pull in that money so much more is required and the consequences of poor performance are much further reaching (i.e. Bankruptcy, economic instability etc). All a footballer gets is a hard time in the changing rooms and a few boos at full time.

This sums up my apathy to the game and maybe the club at the moment as the blades have numerous players in this bracket, whilst fans keep coming and paying over the odds to see underwhelming performances. Today highlights this perfectly, poor performance, no repercussions for the players on cushy contracts and 1800+ fans disappointed and out of pocket.

There are plenty of reasons to love football and it ignites passions in people that other things in life can't, I'm just not feeling it anymore.

Know how you feel , but once a blade always a blade . It is not SUFC thats the issue , i think its the Sky coverage , premiership , and obscene players wages , when the working man is still suffering from the recession.
Good post and sums up the feelings of thousands of supporters up and down the country .

Still get a kick out of following the Blades and BDTBL , but empatise with you and also agree . You are still a blade and we are all equal together , with one aim .

Much the same for me. Me and Mrs HMB used to see so many matches, home and away, have followed the Blades since the night I fell in love with them. And when HMB Jnr turned up and time/financial demands increased, then football (for us) had to take a bit of a back seat (though not totally). And I also relate to the degree of apathy about the development of the sport (not quite 50+, but getting too close for comfort). But I have been involved in junior football as HMB Jnr develops, have found his enthusiasm tremendous. And, do you know what? The Blades always been there. Seen some crap in my time, seen some the finest moments in and out of football grounds following them. Managers, players, all manner of bobbar, have come and gone, yet here she is, this Club of mine. And on a day like today, I know that really, despite her best efforts, it's a lifetime relationship.

Result and performance totally justifies you're decision to stay at home with the family. Walking back to car today I genuinely questioned why I bothered giving up a day with the family to spend a fortune and 12 hours out of the house for that tripe.

Same here. Especially after today. Roll on World Championships.
