Just noticed that Southampton have scored 25 goals over the past 2 seasons from outside the box, 11 this season so far.

Apart from Ollies goal against Reading [I think], and Moose against MU I cannot remember us scoring any others over the same 2 seasons. Certainly nowhere near 25!

We just do not seem to take many shots from outside the box. On a night like last night I would have thought they were the ideal conditions with the ball skimming off the slippery ground.

Both goals at Millwall in the cup.
Moose at home to Man U
Duffy at home to Rotherham
Norwood at Brentford

t's almost as if someone has checked the analytics and realised that they must find a negative.

Can we class Norwood v Palace??
Or v Villa(even though it was disallowed!)?

It's almost as if someone has checked the analytics and realised that unless you're Ruben Neves taking such shots is generally stupid
I’m glad someone else gets it. We set out to create high quality chances. By nature we might only create one or two of these a game. A lot of our fans would be happier with us taking dozens of pot shots from all over the pitch, but it’s generally an ineffective strategy.

I think Fleck scored from outside the box when he curled it in along the ground. Against Burnley I think.

Can remember Norwood vs Brentford and Villa, Duffy vs Rovrum, Freeman vs Bolton (I think), McGoldrick vs Hull and Derby, Fleck vs Reading, Bash vs Leeds. That's 8.

Then this season yeah alot less. Can only think of Besic vs Millwall and Norwood vs Blackburn (I'm guessing the Norwood one u mean was vs Millwall)

Last night Wolves had crowded their defence, the only opportunities to shoot from outside the box were the balls played through to Sharp, where he was caught offside 3 times (disappointed when we don't see replays of the offsides very unlike Sharp to be caught off that many times).

The replay showed Billy was offside on the one that he scored from.

Yeah saw that but he was pulled twice before, they didn't show replays for those, I always get suspicious if I don't see it for myself.

Its a tactic for desperate teams
Wednesday were reliant on Reach hitting a 35 harder. After that they were piss poor.
Stop Reach stop piggies. He's stopped scoring owls keep getting battered

We get our fair share of long range goals.
Jags got one v Leeds the other day

Wouldn't bet against Egan scoring a 25 yarder if it drops right for him, the technique on that half volley the other day was perfect.

Just resurected this having watched an inept England lose to Belgium, because England had so many free kicks & open play opportunities just outside the area, with no-one capable of getting one on target never mind scoring.
Is there any Beckham-esque player in our squad ( not including Jags ) who could fill this roll
When youve worked hard to get to get up to the oppponents area and end up with a free kick just outside the area it may pay dividends to have someone on the pitch who can fullfill this role.

The only one who has any kind of track record is Ollie Norwood. Scored direct from a free-kick against Villa in the 4-1 home win in 2018 and a 25 yard strike away at Brentford in the same season.

If you don't shoot you don't score.

How many shots have we had this season?

To echo the words of Kilner I think, on an early 90s end of season video, we had beaten Chelsea 4 2 or similar on the final day.
"It may only be 6 inches, but it means a lot to Andy Scott."
