We either;

Start poorly, make good subs and turn it around (like today)

OR

Start really good, make bad subs and fuck it up (like Blackpool)

Why can't we start really good, make good subs and consolidate our position? (like never)
It helps if you pick the right starting lineup

Bad finishing is happening in every game whether we win 4-0 or lose
Nobody notices when we win, but the easier to score than miss opportunities continue to be missed

Some players are better than others.
If we start with our best side, then bring on players who aren’t as good, then we struggle after the changes.
If we want to make ‘good subs’, then we put good players on the bench, and they don’t start the game, so the team that starts the game struggles, until the better players come on. ;)

Seriously though, I think in some recent games we’ve filled the bench with really inexperienced players and partially fit ones.
I’d imagine if we had Berge, Ndiaye, McBurnie, Khadra, Sharpe, Brewster, Jebbison, Doyle, Fleck, Bogle, McAtee, Norwood, Lowe (and probably some I’ve forgotten) all fully fit, AND a really settled back line of Baldock, Anel, Egan, Robinson, RND … then you’d expect the impact of our subs to be a major asset.
You’re right though that at the moment, they definitely aren’t (apart from the one game where we started with our two top scorers on the bench).

We stated poorly against Blackpool and scored 2 gimmes … without making subs we messed up and we’re hanging on… then we made subs and looked slightly better

I really thought Norwich were seriously going to rip us a new one on Saturday. In the first half you could be mistaken for thinking there was a gulf in class. Yes, we were shaken by 2 daft goals, but they were quicker all over the pitch and our ponderous style simply couldn’t cope with their press. But after making the right substitutions the match was turned on it’s head with Norwich lucky to get a draw in the end.
This league is like that and now we haven’t got a target on our back being top, we can now build another head of steam from the chasing pack.

In theory yes, however it’s not a given if we have a lot of players who aren’t finishing as they should/could.
Didn't Boro under Wilder have a disproportionately high xG too and look how that ended. The only stats that matter in a football match are goals scored.

Tell that to Matthew Benham.
