Crazy as it sounds, but I'm feeling like a young kid at Christmas and counting down to the number of sleeps before Father Slav arrives. I'll be up at 5am on July 1st demanding to know if he's arrived yet. Looking forward to what presents he'll bring for us to open. Parcels including who his backroom staff will consist of; his permanent targets; his loan targets and I wouldn't be surprised if the new kit will be unveiled on his arrival.
Such a contrast of enthusiasm to that lot in S6. Bless em.

For me, the excitement revolves around the abundancy of unknown. What formation? What sort of style? Who will he sign? Will he use the old guard? Shall we see youth given a fair go? Will we see the realised potential of Brewster? Is there a part to play for the likes of Freeman or even Mouss? Will the pillows in the new Hilton hotel be fluffy?

The anticipation is exciting to me because we desperately needed this fresh start with a Manager who has a record that's worth getting excited about. We should be grateful to the board for that. If you think otherwise go speak to a Baggies fan about now.

Until we find out, he’s just a bloke dressed up as Santa

I'm as excited as I can remember for a new manager but I can't pretend the boring looking fixture list has taken the edge off a little.

I've been to most of the places more times in my life than I've been to work since January 2020.

I'm gonna find out where he's living/staying and smear "y ant we sined ne1 yet' in excrement on his walls.
Isn't he moving into the new penthouse at the copthorne, sorry, "Doube Tree by Hilton, Sheffield Centre"?

I'm tempered by my worry about what we were about and the hope that the positives continue.
We had several "extra" players.
1st The system gave us overloads especially in the Championship
2nd The Crowd and Atmosphere gave adrenaline especially late on in games
3rd Specialists in the positions which made the system work
4th A massive unit strength "some of the parts" as we always said.

It's the 4th that is the worry. Chris Wilder built a unit that would work and run through brick walls for each other. Reading at home and down to 10 men, the lads worked their socks off for each other and gave everything for the cause. Reading were doing well and were rivals at the time but the team dug in. That's the lads working for each other and their manager. It was the same more recently against Villa they gave everything for each other even with a second choice defence.
For us to do well we need to keep the group bond and not make it about each individual. I hope the email Slav sent was not written as a threat but as a hopeful message to be part of the group, in which case I hope Slav can keep the group together as well as hungry.

Can i use your loyalty points then... 😃👍🤔

Right, it's past 6am on the 1st July and still no sign of him. Where the hell is he? Not good enough. I hope he realises what's in his in-tray..
From the top:-
Hand over meeting with Hecky
Group meeting with first team squad
Face to face meetings with Bryan and Slater - to discuss their futures, - or not!!
Zoom meeting with Sander (where the hell is he)?
Zoom call with Rammers to his hotel room in Rome to tell him to stick the Gunners up his ARSEnal
Kick out Lunny when he returns to the training ground as he forgot to clear out his locker yesterday. (bet he's never ran so fast in the last 12 months)
Check out the reported leak we've heard so much about over these last 6 months.
That's before we get onto all the media circus crap.
Shop manager to Slav:-
'Hi Mr J. Could you pop into the shop at some point and have a photo of you holding our brand new home shirt?
Slav to manager:-
'If it ain't got a black pinstripe, I ain't doing it'.
Then a call from the media team:-
'Hi Slav. On your way up to the training ground, could you drop into the Lane as we'd like to do the welcome video of you?
The shoot will be set in a darkened room with red strobe lighting in the background with you sat on a swivel chair, back to camera.
As the music and the lighting intensifies you slowly spin round to face the camera with a big smile on your face'.
Slav to media team:-
'OH, F*** OFF, I don't do smiles'.

On his first evening in Sheffield it's time to relax of course though - sampling the local cuisine with Moose.

He doesnt look scary when he smiles, thats me out, get robson or weir back

I was just gonna say the same thing, where's that Don Corleone type of smile, the kind of smile he gives before putting a couple of caps in your skull.
That's a full on smile, and I don't like it.

Don’t know how relevant this is but, Silverstone have announced a full capacity crowd for the British GP on 18th July. Maybe they know something the government haven’t announced yet.

First glimmer of hope that we’ll all be at BDTBL for the first match and first belly flip of excitement.

I'm all aboard the excitement train! My new doddery old fool season card arrived today!

If you’re bored of going to places like the city ground and pride park, I’d give this football malarkey up.
