Get ready for another five years in the wilderness

Not aimed at you Stretch but not being surprised at being turned over by Bury is quite a sad affair.

Yes it's sad but I've come to the conclusion that you can't judge a result based on the history and size of the clubs involved in the match. Quite frankly it means nothing in the majority of cases.

Up and down the land each of the leagues are probably more open and more unpredictable than ever. Who would have even contemplated Mourinho & Chelsea struggling this season, or Brighton & Walsall topping the next 2 leagues at thus stage?

It's all about the 11 players who step out and that team having the right mix. We are a few players short of that currently, in arguably the most important positions, CBs and GK.

As for Bury, they seem to have a good balance, but like us leak goals so it's not surprising that they can at least match us. Add to that Flitcroft, he knew the score 'keep em quiet for 20 minutes, the crowd will get on their backs and we'll beat em'
On the day in question he was 100% correct.

You seem to not grasp the severity of building a new team (which we will have to do next season due to the number of players out of contact) in the third division instead of the second.

Wish I had your faith in a squad of third division football players on 2\3 year contracts dragging us out of this league.

We really do need to build a second division team next season. Can't remember when we had so many contracts ending in one season. Lots like Charlton a few years back.
We need to make a fair few changes of that there is no doubt but where does the 5 years come from? We all know the positions that need strengthening most and if he didn't before then I'm bloody sure Adkins does now. His biggest mistake to date was giving existing players a chance but in reality he had little option. We already had a bulging squad of rank average players, the vast majority of whom had another year left on there contracts. One things for sure. If we do go up this year he will have earned his corn with some of the crap Clough left us with. But let's be honest, 5 years is just being over dramatic

You can't turn back the time,
Ain't that a shame

Nothing dramatic about my comments although brave of you to type insults from all the way over there.

I've watched plenty of games this season despite where I live. I stopped making the trip a few weeks back because I see the same pattern emerging again and today was further proof of it.

Like a small minority of our supporters you're failing to grasp the price of another failure this season. Having lost our best players year after year you would think history would teach you something but no. I'm sure the likes of Che Adams would love to stick around for another push at League One next term. It will be made all the more straight forward when our manager becomes the latest fall guy for the circus that is SUFC.

Spend less time calling people a drama queen and more time taking a dose of reality.

Malaise forever.
As I've just said, I'm not saying things are perfect, far from it but 5 years? Get a grip man. I'm far more of a slasher than a clapper but I also think this manager will have us up either this season or next. I'll hold my hands up if he doesn't.

5 years. McCunt has got us by the short and curlies. Better settle down for more years in thIs division because the way he and the Saudi parasites are running this club we will still be n this division at best.

Rank average players? What do you think we will have for the next three years if we don't go up this season?

We have quality in the squad that with additions is good enough to get us up be it this year or next (and like you am praying its this as I've had enough of this bloody league) . Our problem is we are bloated with average crap that just aren't good enough. It's those that Adkins has said he wants to move on in January. He really has to stop being mr nice guy in January and make some tough decisions. Am sure we could all name at least 8+ players that we wouldn't miss in the slightest.

Grumpy, not having a go but earlier in this thread you agreed that we were only twoish players off being a good squad so I don't get where your coming from mate. Am assuming one of those is centre half so where else in your thoughts are we lacking? Genuine question pal

Did you expect we would be down for 5 years when we got relegated? I don't think anyone anticipated that. What's to say it won't be another 5? We can only speculate as to how long it would be. You and I have absolutely no idea but how you can consider another 5 years inconceivable is beyond me.

Let's hope he does get us up inside this season or next because if he doesn't he won't be here, like the rest of the managers who have been sacked. He's said himself that it has to be THIS season and if we fail to go up I wouldn't be at all surprised to see another manager in place come next August.

If you can get someone to take the padding in our squad.....and that's your first problem.....what are your expectations for signing better replacements?

I suppose now you're going to tell me the club has a history of great transfer business. You make it sound easy.

The replacements would be players Adkins genuinely wants rather than being forced upon him and as for quality, well that depends on the board and our ability to shift others be it permanently or on loan. As for the 5 years part I think we finally have a manager who's been there done it for the first time. We should stick with him and I'm sure he will deliver. Personally I can't see us making mistakes to the extent we have in the past I.e. Rookie managers like Wier. I just genuinely think Adkins is the man. If my drama queen comment upset you that much then accept my apologies

Don't worry about that such things don't upset me. I just think name calling is against the spirit of the forum and discussion in general. Let's forget about that.

I think Adkins is the best possible manager we could hope to have in our situation. My doubts come from years of poor mismanagement above the coaching team and a lack of willingness to speculate and as far as I'm concerned that's the only way to succeed in football anymore.

We still haven't spent the Jamie Murphy money it would seem. Now either that means we have no intention of doing so or that the proceeds along with anything else we have in the budget is not enough to bring in the quality we need.....and boy do we need it.

We are a centre half short and maybe one more or a central midfielder. One of them needs to be a leader although I'm hoping Brayford could drive us on when he's back. If we get two decent centre halves I think the goalie can wait until next season. Perhaps a goalie and a centre half?

Frustrating doesn't get near how I feel about not sorting the back four.
That said any team that goes up conceding 70/80 goals has a mega exciting season.

It's next season that frightens me with having to rebuild. We just can't afford to have a squad of third division players, we didn't get out of this league with a squad that was mainly second division under Wilson so god knows how long we'll be here if it is to be a third division squad.
