do you think we will ever see George long in a united shirt again? he is a quality keeper and is doing great with Wimbledon this season and his attitude is spot on according to wilder in past interviews. he is still young so has potential to improve also.

Not if we are promoted. UTB

Only if Wilder leaves and we get a shit manager.

the curious case of George Long, he has at times even at the lane shown there is a decent keeper in there, however he is a confidence player and once the tide turned on him at the lane it never really changed back and always looked nervous and scared to make a mistake, which then brought out mistakes and errors, which would have not normally have been in his game.

he was never vocal and its showed the difference when we signed Moore to what a keeper should be in terms of commanding the area, although Jamal does not shout and talk all match like Moore still seems to have control of the box and the trust of the defenders in front of him, something George never seemed to manage, and yes at times he had a suspect defence in front of him but still he could have commanded more than he did.

Always seems to do well away from the lane, cant see that changing and I think his future will be else where, a nice guy great attitude but never quite lived up to what he might have been, would have liked to seen him progress with the blades but I cant see happening for him.

That ship has sailed to be honest. Even at his best he's was better than Blackman or Moore. Eastwood also looks a promising young keeper.

Glad he's playing well though and hope he rebuilds his career at Wimbledon. Could do with a permanent move soon

I sincerely hope not.

I don't think he's a quality keeper.

I'm glad for him that he's impressing at Wimbledon though and I hope they buy him off us and makes a good career for himself there, or somewhere else.

No, he's shit. Move on

No, though he will comfortably be a permanent starter at League 1 level. Seems to thoroughly enjoying his football now that he’s not jumped on by his own fans at the slightest error.

To be fair his confidence looked shot.

He reminded me so much of Steve Simmonsen.
Good shot stopper and pulls off the odd great reflex save.
However doesn’t like coming off his line and doesn’t communicate with his defence making defenders look nervous.

Like with Simmonsen I always felt nervous when Long was in goal dealing with crosses, corners and long punts up field in the area between the defence and goalie. I think Long is a good goalie as long as he has a good defence in front of him with someone else (like Jake Wright) organising it.

It’s ironic that our defence is now much better and organised, therefore if Long was playing for us, his weaknesses wouldn’t be exposed as much. Although I do like how Jamal catches crosses and corners so easily, he’s that big he hardly needs to jump.

He's doing very well, best of luck to him. League One is his level. No point having him back when we have Eastwood.

he is a quality keeper.

Said nobody. Ever.

If we seriously want to progress then no, he will never play for us again. There is no time for sentiment. The bloke isn’t, hasn’t been and never will be good enough to be United’s number one. Move on.

Might be on the next bus back!

Having played in goal I feel sorry for George. As a young keeper it was important to have a strong, well organized defence in front of him or at the very least the same players who he could create an understanding with. He not only had none of that but he also had to contend with his own fans abusing him. The atmosphere was toxic and in hindsight I bet he wishes that he had a couple more years experience before being exposed to that.
Personally I hope he does well and fulfills his talent from a young age. To say he is shit shows a complete lack of understanding

No, he's shit. Move on
Don't agree KB.
His MOTM performances, and best/favourite player at the Wombles would suggest otherwise.
I suspect you're referencing his time at the Lane which could arguably garner a 'No, he was shit' comment.
I agree with your comment that we should all move on though..... :)

I wonder why the OP posted this now? Hmmmm

GL is where he is.now
and will not progress much further,

To be a successful keeper at the lane you've got deal with a sometimes toxic atmosphere....1st, and be good keeper ...2nd.
Let's face it people on here and in the stands are already chipping away at Blackman, which I find bizarre.

We seem to have a good number of ex-goalies on here, and we are all generally supportive of the United keepers (except for the indefensible minority). Is it the solidarity of the goalkeepers' Union, or because we all know that you only play in goal when you're not good enough to play anywhere else?:(

GK Union. If you've ever played Futsal as a keeper you need to be decent out as well, or at least helps anyway.
