Best was still the best player on the pitch surprisingly fit stored a stunning goal in front of the Kop the crowd before hand were pretty convinced he wouldn't turn up till it was announced he'd got out of a taxi after the goal TC went on his knees and bowed in front of him. still I suspect the best player I've ever seen live

We got 18,500 for the testimonial. For league games we were only getting nine or ten thousand despite the fact we were on the fringes of the second division promotion battle.

EDIT - Sorry only just seen LS16's post who essentially makes the same point.

Bibbedy Bobbedy Boo
Put 'em together and what 'ave yer got............

Two piss artists with dreadful fashion sense.

Had a video cassette of the TC testimonial, must be lost after a few house moves. The commentator kept referring to Bobby Charlton.
"Now it's Charlton, what can Bobby do ?" This was relayed a good few times during the highlights. And as he (Bob) left the field, "It's not Bobby Charlton - it's Archie Gemmill."

Oops.
The commentator on that video was unintentionally hilarious ! It was the guy who did the hospital commentaries. As well as the Bobby Charlton Gaff , He also thought that George Best was Bill Oddie from the Goodies!

The crowd size was far bigger than expected, much more than the average attendances that season , and they had to open the Bramall Lane upper tier to cope with it

Yes he did I was on the Kop at the time everybody took in in good part. The thing I remember most about the day apart from Best was how well Curries team pretty much the 71 side played. you were reminded how good they were. My first matches watching United that was the team. Every United side since sits in their shadow. The current side for me is the best to watch since.
