I think the bloke on the front extreme right was Best's agent ? Bill somebody ? Think he's representing Maupay nowadays.

Had a video cassette of the TC testimonial, must be lost after a few house moves. The commentator kept referring to Bobby Charlton.
"Now it's Charlton, what can Bobby do ?" This was relayed a good few times during the highlights. And as he (Bob) left the field, "It's not Bobby Charlton - it's Archie Gemmill."

Can't see him in the picture but sure Keith Edwards played despite having left for Leeds that summer. got booed all game!

It was on scaffolding on the John St Terrace (standing bit), nearer to the Kop end.

From memory it was just the Kop and SS that were open but I could be wrong (I was once wrong apparently).

BTW, the Housemartins were at the top of their game at that point and a superb live act.

The stage was in front of the John Street (as stated by Ishouldcoco).

Initially, only the Kop and the South Stand was opened. The club assumed, with some justification, that that should be sufficient to accommodate everyone. After all, this was the mid-80's and gates across the board were way down. Our league gates were bumping along at c.10-11,000 but were still amongst the top 3 or 4 in Division 2. The club reasoned that there should, therefore, be no problem getting everyone in just 2 sides of the ground for a mere testimonial.

On the day, however, considerably more Blades than had been anticipated turned out. The South was full and the Kop was filling up rapidly. The police, therefore, made a decision on the hoof shortly before kick-off to open the Bramall Lane end to get everyone in.

The gate was given at 17,900 which always looked like a bit of a 'guess-stimate'. Many of us who were there thought it was probably over 20,000.
