Leicester are in the mids, and the Manchester clubs aren’t in lancs but greater Manchester.

Take out Wednesday (the Premier League shouldn’t have its name besmirched with clubs who cheat, it’s bad enough with West Ham) Middlesborough, Cardiff and Swansea and replace with Portsmouth, Southampton, Derby and QPR.
 
On the subject of Counties I learned this week that Middlesex no longer exists as an entity. Just the name of a Cricket Club
 
If you were to create a top 20 using the 20 teams who have played the most seasons in the top flight all time the members would be (in descending order, with number of seasons after their names):

Everton 117
Aston Villa 106
Liverpool 105
Arsenal 103
Manchester United 95
Manchester City 91
Newcastle United 88
Sunderland 86
Chelsea 85
Tottenham Hotspur 85
WBA 81
Bolton Wanderers 73
Blackburn Rovers 72
Sheffield Wednesday 66
Derby County 65
Wolverhampton Wanderers 65
West Ham United 62
Stoke City 62
Middlesbrough 61
Sheffield United 61

We will pass Boro and tie Stoke next season, of course.

The clubs with the 21st most seasons - Burnley and Birmingham - have done 57 seasons each.

Leicester is closer to Birmingham that Southampton is to Brighton so I'd say you could count them in with Villa, Wolves and West Brom.
Saints are unlucky really as we're the only team in Hampshire! 😇😇 😇

Interesting that "giants" like Leeds and Forest don't appear on that list despite pundits and journalists constantly telling us how they belong in the top flight and how it's a travesty that they've been out of it for so long. Perhaps it's just the natural order of things. I've long felt that there's some sort of dewy-eyed nostalgia amongst the football establishment for how things were in the 1970s. No one has a right to be in the top flight, you have to earn it and that's why the promotion/relegation system works so well.

While I agree with your point about the current Leeds love-in probably being something to do with the fact that most of their success was within living memory (i'm in my thirties, but even I remember them playing Champions League football), statistics like the list above don't tell the full story: Leeds were only founded in 1919, by which point some of the teams on that list (including us/Wednesday) had already spent 20+ seasons in the top flight. In fact, Leeds have probably spent more seasons at the top level since 1919 than we have...

Forest I can't explain though 🤷‍♂️

Leeds were never a top flight fixture until Revie and since 1982 have spent more years out than in.

Forest have had long periods in the lower divisions, and of course have not been in the PL this century. Take out the Clough years and there is nothing to choose between them and Notts County in terms of top flight form.
 
There'll be a lot made of the Yorkshire Derby next year, I'd imagine it'll appear in a list of fiercest rivalries on buzzfeed or such platform at some point. Dare I say it could come to shadow the steel city derby as we wont be playing that anytime soon (hopefully - don't want to upset the football gods)

Makes sense really. A derby between the two powerhouses of Yorkshire football is bound to take precedence over a derby featuring Wednesday.

It’s not all bad for them though. They can build quite a rivalry with Barnsley and even Rotherham, they’ll probably be playing them quite regularly over the coming years. In fact I’d say they’ve already got that going with Barnsley, they’re both very similar in club size and prospects.

Us and Leeds will once again be the standard bearers for the great county of Yorkshire.

What about the south west? We havent had a prem team for bloody ages
 
What about Fulham? They’ll be back next season or Brentford, both south west of here. If you want to go really S.W. there was Reading.
