GMS must imagine this division retains a whiff of the 1950s, where players and fans catch the bus together, polish their own boots, watch black and white TV, and seek part-time employment elsewhere to compensate for their meagre wages.
Barnsley are still in this league remember so not miles away from being accurate.

Wish I could get paid stupid amounts of money for spending half my week sat on a bus.

Sad indictment of where footballers are nowadays.

Pay em all £150 per match and make em get a part time job :D

Why do we all keep treating football as if it's not a job? If you had the offer of 2 jobs and one was a lower quality of company and involved a lot of bus travel, which would you choose?

The fact he wants to play for Celtic instead of travelling around League One grounds is no affront to the rest of us common workers you know :)

Well he clearly wasn't particularly thrilled by the prospect of playing for United which I thought was our number one requirement.

Christ I hate League One. No one playing at a half decent standard sees it as a viable career move.

No that's Barnsley.

This is what Marc MnNulty said in an interview recently:-

“It’s crazy the amount of games you have down here,” continues McNulty. “You’re playing Saturday-Wednesday most weeks. Everyone is excited about White Hart Lane already. At Livingston, you’d only ever get the odd Tuesday night game. Down here there are so many teams."

They hardly play any midweek matches in the Scottish Premiership. I guess that's mainly what GMS is referring to.
Still if he'd rather sit at home playing FIFA on a Tuesday than proper football, he's not the man for us.
He certainly won't meet Clough's first criteria for signing a player, "Does he want to play for Sheffield United?".

Maybe the small amount of games is what makes the Scottish leagues so bad, I can see the attraction in going to a huge club like Celtic but since the demise of Rangers there is very little competition for the SPL title which devalues winning anything north of the border, I suppose it is a bit like dropping Man city into league two they should be expected to win every game easily. That Celtic don't have it quite their own way every week says to me they are not that good, I do think they would be average at our Championship level. Another thing the divisions are small and they play each team 4 times, Christ imagine having to watch your team play the dingles four times a season.

According to @bbcjimspence, Gary Mackay-Steven will sign a pre-contract with Celtic. "Player doesn't fancy league one".

So just because a good player has chosen someone else over us doesn't mean he's shite now. This criteria Clough chooses that the player has to want to play for Sheff Utd first is a reyt old load of bollocks,i think he has to get his excuses out early as to why we aren't getting any of our targets and i don't blame Clough 'btw'.

Any player who has any talent will not join us in league one over a deal such as Celtic as soon as it became apparent that they wanted him, which was well after we showed interest with our shambolic bid 'btw'.We should have bid more from the start and we then would have got him tied down to us,Dundee United would have accepted the offer from us rather than lose him for nothing and he would have come,we had to scrape the barrel once again, all this travelling on a bus shite would have never come to fruition had he signed. We obviously aren't willing to part with any cash and the board have let Cloughy down yet again because surely Clough wouldn't only value this lad at less than 80k? Surely not?

250k is all they wanted,we'd have got him for between 150-200k,now what are we fucking about at? With age on his side and an obvious talent, this could have only been a good deal for us as we could have surely sold him for more or atleast the same as what we got him for in the future.Never mind, nothing should suprise me.

You still think we should have bid £250 k for someone who doesn't fancy England ,league 1 and a ride on a bus now and again ? I think you are pricing him £249.999.99 to much.

If he genuinely 'doesn't fancy league one' (which to be fair is up to him at the end of the day), what difference would it have made if we would have bid more?

The bit about having to spend so much time on a bus is one of the more unique reasons for not wanting to play for a club, 10/10 for originality. Soft lad.

Gary Mackay Steven set for Celtic on a pre contract. Utd told that no fee will be paid for him by Celtic. Player doesn't fancy league one.

Key thing for GMS seems to be unattractiveness of League one in England. Half the week would be spent on a bus travelling to games.

Couldnt we have paid for his driving lessons ?

The guy was free to sign for anyone, it makes no difference how much we offered d u, the negotiation was with the player in the last six months of his contract.
The only deal to be done with d u was to negotiate an early release from his contract, .
In the last six months the player holds all the aces, derrrrrrrr!!!

Don't understand why Celtic can offer him a deal now when they are from the same country, shouldn't they have to wait till the summer?

Told you he was a puff ,how many layers ? and this was in September.

League One or Champions League hmmm...

Travelling on a bus to Yeovil or travelling on a plane to possible play Real Madrid hmmm...

Not a hard decision, is it?

He will only be good enough as a bench warmer, NC can spot em a mile off

Prob be like the rest any how, world beater across the boarder, crap down here!! Stokes commons samaras just to name a few... Oh forgot lyle Taylor.

Don't you and anyone else who responded to my post for that matter not think it's strange that he only said that after Celtic approached him? He never said that from the start and was quite willing to come to us in league 1 at first, until we fannied around, dilly dallying around with bids short of 80k.

It's only my personal view sitters but i think we should have tabled an offer of 150k and we could have gone along way to securing the pussies services:)

My point mate is that if we bid a bit more coinage earlier,Celtic wouldn't have had chance to come into the frame,we'd have got him,all this bus ride bullshit wouldn't have occured and he would have been in the squad on Saturday at MkPlastics. He was all up for league one at first, that is until we messed around with poxy bids, this giving other teams the chance to come into the frame.

And no matter how many layers he has on,or gloves for that matter, the lads got real quality and instead of running out and playing for us,he will now be playing in the Champions league. So yes,we have missed out on a very good player who could quite easily be worth a couple of million next season.

It's not an hard decision no,but we gave that decision a chance to happen and that's what we have to brush up on as we have quite clearly let a good player out of our grasp.
