Sky sources say that Dundee United want 250k for GMS,and 'tbh' they're not often that far off so i think if we bid that we get him, simple as that blades, bid what they want and you get your man.

There's a big difference between wanting £250k and getting £250k for a player who is out of contract in 6 months and already apparently available to discuss terms with Scottish clubs for a free transfer. If any deal goes through I'd be amazed if it was more than £200k.

Judging by how some people think we should start bidding for these players I'd dread to see their finances

I know we have offered low but lets trust Mal Brannigan he knows what he's doing. I doubt Clough traveled up to Scotland just to watch GMS, with how football works now I would guess he probably met the player and his agent before or after the game. Wouldn't he just send a scout if he just wanted to watch the player?

Personal terms might have already been agreed and its just a case of both clubs getting the best deal. If Celtic want to sign GMS at the end of his contracts surely Dundee United will be more inclined to do business with United that are offering them a fee for his services.

Dundee Utd and their fanbase would far rather that GMS went to England for a fee than to Celtic for nothing but there's not a lot they can do if he wants to move to Glasgow. They can't force him to sign for anyone.

Apparently he said he was looking for a move to england. If sincere that works in our favour but it's hard to see us competing with Celtic unless he's determined to leave the SPL. They can offer far better wages, he gets the chance to play in Europe and almost certainly win trophies every season.

Except for we don't know that do we? What actually is their valuation (from a credible source)?

You appear to be annoyed that we've not automatically jumped in with more to begin with? But think that Celtic will get him, by not actually making a bid?

Things we know:

We've made an opening bid, below £80k (Sheffield United Chairman).
He's out of contract in the summer.
He fancies playing in England.

Selection of things we've seen in the papers:

We've had an initial offer of just under £150k rejected (Jan 8th - Daily Mail)
Dundee United seek at least £2million (Jan 8th - The Scotsman)
We've made an opening bid of £100k (Jan 9th - Daily Record)
£100k offer rejected from Sheffield United (Jan 9th - Sheffield Star)
We're going to offer around £200k (Jan 9th - Daily Record)
We've bid £100k which was turned down, we're going back in with £200k (Jan 10th - Evening Telegraph)
We'll have to double our valuation (Jan 11th - Sheffield Star)
We've made an opening bid of £120k (Jan 13th - Daily Record)
Mackay-Steven set to be sold for around £100k (Jan 13th - Huddersfield Examiner)
We've had a third offer of £80k rejected (Jan 13th - BBC Sport)
We've had a second offer of £80k rejected (Jan 13th - STV)

So the range according to the papers is between £80k and £2million, who also cant decide how much we've offered or how many times we have. Given our previous forays into the Scottish market, where do you think he sits?
No, good point.
The sources do vary on the figures massively, but as a pessimistic blade(are there any other kind) I'm very confident that we will have gone with the lowest haha but don't worry, the fourth bid will be 85k and that will be the clincher.
Where do I think he sits? In terms of ability and potential? Well, Mcnulty's age puts him more in the prospect category but murphy was on fire when we signed him(one of the best coups we've managed in a while I reckon) but if this is leading to a valuation question... I'm sure he cost us 150?175k?

I agree Daz,i wasn't saying bid the full 250k,what i was saying that if we did bid that we would certainly get him.It propably didn't come across that way so sorry mate,i was just responding to Foxy's post of sources and Sky being one of the best from what iv'e seen over the years.

No need to be sorry mate - wasn't aimed at you, more at Dundee United wanting £250k :)

My loft is full of the type he'll win at Celtic, and it would take a similar amount of effort to get hold of them.

UTB

Wasn't it his manager who said he was really keen on a move to England?

Gary Mackay Steven set for Celtic on a pre contract. Utd told that no fee will be paid for him by Celtic. Player doesn't fancy league one.

Key thing for GMS seems to be unattractiveness of League one in England. Half the week would be spent on a bus travelling to games.

Quelle Surprise.........that's 15 days wasted of the JTW. Surely it could have been established at the outset that the kid wasn't interested in League 1 football..

Yes because I am sure this is the only deal we have been working on for 15 days. No toher contacts made, enquires or bids put in.

Honest to god.....

Not that surprised. A pity, but we move on to whoever NC feels will be a good fit for the club.

The comment that's apparently come from GMS' camp about travelling on a bus is bizarre, but hey ho, scrunch up unsigned contract, and strengthen our resolve to only sign players who want to come here. Can't blame the club for pursuing this lad if we were given hints that a deal might be possible. Surely this happens all the time, not just in this instance?

Pampered little twat. Fuck him

Perhaps this might bring home one or two realities in life to those clamoring to make 'Big' signings - some of these better players don't fancy it in a pub league no matter how much you offer them !
Ask Harry Maguire - he would rather watch the game from the stands and occasionally the bench than play every week for United - Perhaps it's the £££££££££££££££££££££££££££ Wages and the 'Kudos' of the Premiership !

The wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round, round and round.

I suppose your figure looks better in hoops than stripes eh?

Don't fancy a game at Wembley every year then? *

Grow up you fucking soft ponce!

* - given our fecking record there - neither do I but I only have to shell out and get disappointed, I don't get to strut me stuff on the turf.

League One in England or potential Champions League outings with Celtic and pissing the league every season. I know what I'd choose.

Wish I could get paid stupid amounts of money for spending half my week sat on a bus.

Sad indictment of where footballers are nowadays.

Pay em all £150 per match and make em get a part time job :D

Yeah, me too.

My old dad would haunt me every night for the rest of my life and beyond if I ever pulled on a Tims shirt...

Obviously we will have made other "enquiries" but as none of us know how much the budget is we could well have stalled on prospective targets if GMS was number one on the list.... if he was and is now signing for someone else we are 15 days into the JTW with no result....

GMS must imagine this division retains a whiff of the 1950s, where players and fans catch the bus together, polish their own boots, watch black and white TV, and seek part-time employment elsewhere to compensate for their meagre wages.

Ifs, Buts, No one knows...... says it all.

Half the week sat on a bus going to games .......................... he must think England is the size of the USA

This is what Marc MnNulty said in an interview recently:-

“It’s crazy the amount of games you have down here,” continues McNulty. “You’re playing Saturday-Wednesday most weeks. Everyone is excited about White Hart Lane already. At Livingston, you’d only ever get the odd Tuesday night game. Down here there are so many teams."

They hardly play any midweek matches in the Scottish Premiership. I guess that's mainly what GMS is referring to.
Still if he'd rather sit at home playing FIFA on a Tuesday than proper football, he's not the man for us.
He certainly won't meet Clough's first criteria for signing a player, "Does he want to play for Sheffield United?".

Let the idle fucker stay in the Pub League then, if he's not confident he can make the step up to the Pub League Premier
